Odd period...
Jul. 29th, 2004 08:19 pmWell, I'm 18. I get my period every 6 months. Yes, I call that regular, it's always been that way. My periods are usually fairly normal...4-6 days, never too heavy.
This period is so incredably heavy. I'll soak a super tampon in about 2 hours and there is a lot of clotted blood. It's crazy. It's never been this heavy before.
Anyone have any ideas what the deal could be? Anyone have this happen before?

Date: 2004-07-29 08:43 pm (UTC)heavy bleeding can be caused by a ton of things.
i'd try wearing a pad and if you soak it in an hour, thats grounds to call a doc.

Date: 2004-07-29 09:36 pm (UTC)I don't do pads. I got a rash on the tops of my my inner thighs from them when I had to wear them after my abortion last year.
I don't know. I did figure I'd give it a couple days I was thinking it was a possible very early miscarriage. But I don't know I've been pregnant before, and I had no symptoms of pregnancy.

Date: 2004-07-29 09:39 pm (UTC)there are a ton of things that can cause heavy bleeding, fibroids, not having a period for awhile etc. did you have a proper follow-up after your abortion? if this is one of your first periods after an abortion they can be quite heavy and clotty as well.

Date: 2004-07-29 11:04 pm (UTC)I did proper follow up, everything was normal.
I think I'm just going to give it another day or so and if it doesn't lighten up I'll go to the doctor.

i'd say if you aren't cramping more than you normally do, and the flow slows a bit - you're just having a heavier period than normal.
hope everything gets straigtened out soon!

Date: 2004-07-29 09:31 pm (UTC)we don't ovulate (speaking for the Qílóra here), and if/when we do it is *very* rarely...
we usually go the 3-4 months between bleeding (although we have gone a year or so between, or the 6 months that you have mentioned)...
if you are not underweight, or anorexic, then my next guess would be that you are possibly not ovulating also... your doctor is the only one who could know for sure (or at least give you a well educated guess!)
the reason you are bleeding so heavily is most likely because while you are *not* menstruating (every single month) your uterine lining IS STILL growing and accumulating...
in our case, we have "breakthrough bleeding", after we have been active enough, or after sexual intercourse...
when we bleed, we bleed out the full 3 or 4 months worth of blood and uterine-tissue... and that leads to the heavy bleeding like you have mentioned...
so no, you are not a freak, but yes i would go to a gynocologist, just to make sure that you are not suffering from something that needs medical attention...
good luck.

Date: 2004-07-29 09:39 pm (UTC)I'm most concerned about the amount of clotting.

Date: 2004-07-29 09:43 pm (UTC)but i wouldn't rule out something like polycystic(sp) ovaries... just because one or 2 eggs pop on out, doesn't mean that your ovaries aren't on strike for the rest of the time...
but yes, we pass the clots also (the longer the cycle has been, the more (and larger) the clots seem to be), it makes sense considering that it is "old" blood and tissue...
and like i said, i really wouldn't panic, because it doesn't sound too strange, but i would still see a doctor about it, to make sure that you do not require medical attention...

why share the same body? isn't that crowded? i feel crowded in my body sometimes and i don't share it with anyone (well except my husband sometimes.heehee) ;-)

" isn't that crowded? i feel crowded in my body sometimes and i don't share it with anyone (well except my husband sometimes.heehee) ;-)"
nah, we only have 2 or 3 folks up front at any given moment in time (just sort of makes us look like "a perpetual multi-tasker"), the rest of us will be doing our own things in-house... *lots* of room in-house...

what if you don't get along?

Date: 2004-07-30 01:19 pm (UTC)it actually has been a bit helpful at times, but as for the energy, nah.... we still only have the one body that we are working with...
"how many are in there?"
not really sure, but we *think* Qílóra has about 20 folks...
"what if you don't get along?"
we grumble and complain to each other, and then we work it out...
don't want to get *too* technical here, but we have an equivalent of a "board of directors", and if someone in-house has a problem, then they are always free to bring it to the attention of the board for resolution...

Date: 2004-07-30 02:06 pm (UTC)20? wow. you all remember each other's names? or are there no names, except for the given name to said physical body?
and do you all like to do the same things? or does one for instance hate sports while another loves them? and where do the souls go after death? do they stay together or sort of split up? but i guess that is a more deep issue and having not been dead, you may not know that. i really should stop asking all these questions. if i keep pondering things like this i'm going to break my brain!
well, as long as you don't beat yourselves up. that could be troublesome!

Date: 2004-07-31 12:36 am (UTC)are you native american? (a part native friend has her cycle only summer - she says the women of her people only cyle in spring and summer - had adapted not to get pregnant in the very lean - starving- winter months)
is this a miscarriage?
being that you get your cycle so rarely it could be buildup and a sign you are starting to get more regular (did you develop late?)

Date: 2004-07-31 12:46 am (UTC)I actually am part native american. But I don't think enough to make a difference.
I don't believe it's a miscarriage. I've been pregnant before and I instantly felt symptoms before i was even a month along(tender breasts, nausea, very regular urination). It could be, but I don't think so.
I think being a ballerina, I developed later than I should've. It was a normal time though. I had my first period at 15 and had tits...while small, they were there. It's just weird because usually my period is very light with clotting only in the last day or so.
I dunno.
