hello, i'm new here. what great timing to find this community! i just started taking the pill (ortho-cyclen) for the first time this week. no bad effects yet really except...will i ever stop bleeding? when does your period get shorter and less painful? i understand there's spotting at first sometimes, so if you start the pill with your period is it normal for your period to last longer? also about an hour after i take it my skin feels all tingly with electricity... but maybe i'm just imagining that!
wow, it feels weird to post this stuff. anyway, thanks in advance for advice/comments.

hey there...i've been on orthotricyclen for something like 6 mos. and i love it. you *do* keep getting your period during the week you take placebo (sugar) pills--with ortho tri-c., that's the "green pills" week. If you skip that week and go straight into the next pack, you won't bleed, but most docs are tentative about OKing that yet as there's still not enough research to convince totally that it's safe long-term. but if there is a time you *really* don't want to bleed, you can do that occasionally with generally no ill effects.

so far as cramping and flow-lightening: for me it started taking effect by the end of the first month, and had just about maximized by the 3rd or so, but that's sure to vary....the usual number is 3rd month you're seeing all the results you can expect, but again, everything veries from individual to individual, in this area more than others :)

don't know about spotting, i never got it--the only side effect i got was mild nausea for the firsit 3 mos. or so. because i took the pill at night, the nausea only lasted till midmorning; some friends took it in the morning and it lasted all day. you can swich the time you take it by shifting an hour or so each day (you should take it within abou the same 2-hour window, in general, so don't shift by more than one hour per day--that will confuse your body).

don't know about the tingling--weird :) it could be a side effect of skin being more sensitive, i suppose..

the benefits from the BC pills generally manifest in the second and third months after beginning the course of medication. you may actually want to get a skin test done to see if you're allergic to any of the things in your BC pills---
turns out, i'm allergic to progesterone and leutenising hormone. for me, they cause skin tingling, itching, and a raging migraine. (well, a lot of things give me migraines, but these caused histamine reactions, too).

just a thought, and something to look into.
good luck 8)
