x-posted, not verbatim, to [livejournal.com profile] amipregnant

I had a sexual intercourse during the time when I would have been fertile, and I used a condom, which broke. My boyfriend noticed it broke immediately and pulled out, not finishing inside of me. I know there is a possibility of pregnancy because pre-ejaculate can fertilize an egg; therefore, I have been anticipating my period.

I read that a pregnant woman can experience spotting in the place of a period and mistake it for her period, and thus begins my question. Today I have bled, at about the time I would be experiencing my normal period, so I would consider it my first day. However, the amount of blood is less than I would have usually expected for first-day flow. I would like to think it is more blood than would occur during spotting, but it is much less than I would have expected, and I have started to really worry.

How much blood constitutes a period versus spotting?
Do I have a legitimate worry?

Thank you.

You can do an over the counter pregnancy test just to be sure. I have heard of a woman who had "normalish" periods for 5 months and never realised that she was pregnant.

You do have a legit worry, and like the first poster said, it's probably a good idea to do a test to double check, especially since every woman's flow is different. But keep in mind stress does funny things to periods, and to me, there's nothing more stressful than "HOLY CRAP, WHAT IF I'M PREGNANT?" :D
