About ten years ago I had small ones, and the way I found out for sure was through ultrasound. I noticed that sometimes when I was riding in a car and we'd go over little bumps in the road, I'd feel them. Not really pain or tenderness, but an awareness. I can't really explain it. A kind of fullness around where my ovaries are.
Didn't treat. They went away on their own. They were only present for a few cycles and then just popped or whatever...they were small enough where no treatment was necessary. I'm going to guess that if they were causing pain, they would have been much larger and needed treatment.
What are the symptoms of ovarian cysts? Many women may have functional cysts or benign cystic tumors without having any symptoms. Sometimes, though, a cyst will swell large enough to cause pressure or pain in the abdomen. The cysts also may put pressure on the urinary tract and cause problems with urine flow. Some women may have pain during sexual intercourse. Although it is rare, it is possible for a very large cyst to become twisted, stopping its own supply of blood. This can cause nausea, fever, and severe abdominal pain. In women with endometriosis, ovarian cysts can cause the commonly felt symptoms of pelvic pain, painful menstrual periods, abnormal bleeding and painful sexual intercourse.

I had a benign cyst on my left ovary 10 or 15 years ago, I needed an ultrasound to confirm it, I had sharp pains on the affected side during intercourse.
I have fairly big cysts on one ovary. Apparently all ovulating women get them every cycle, but they shrink. I don't really have typical symptoms. My periods are highly irregular, that's about the only symptom i have. Some women experience pain, some are overweight, some have excess body or facial hair. It's different for everyone though. They can be treated by burning holes in the, burning them off or by taking contarceptive pills to shrink them. I'm awaiting my period so i can begin the latter!
