First off I just want to say this community is a wonderful idea, there should be more out there for women's health, our bodys are so complicated that information like this is great to find X_x! So to the mod(s) of this community, props to you!!

Anyways, I just joined this community a few minutes ago in hopes of getting some good advice~

I am 17 years old, and I am going to be a senior in highschool. Last year I missed 5-7 days of school every month due to my period. It's un-naturally heavy, and Ive had to many accidents at school, even with a overnight pad on, plus the first two days I feel sick, like I have the flu or something. So that caused me to fall behind quite a lot last year, and your junior year is important. Recently my period has gotten a little irregular as well. So my mom and I were considering me going on the Seasonal pill to help me be in school more so I can do well this upcoming year.

My question is, is this a good idea for a 17 year old? I am a little scared of side effects. And will the doctor deny me the pill for any reason? All I have to do is go to the gynocologist and tell them I need Seasonal right? Having Seasonal would help me out so much if it does what it says it does.

Thanks!

i really dont think that there is a reason why you should be denied seasonale. all it is, is the active pills with a steady hormone level. if your dr gives you a shit reason for not writing out the Rx, then ask for a second opinion.

Actually, a heavy, symptom-laden irregular period could be cause for concern. I would first ask your gyno about it to see if there's some medical abnormality or disease causing all this. If you just ask for the pill right off, you could possibly be overlooking some serious health issues that might have a big impact on your body if you just cover it up.

Not to alarm you, of course, you could just have heavy hell-periods. But definitely have the doc do a thorough exam before you ask for the pill.

i feel for you. my junior year i missed a lot of school because of my periods. they were so heavy i needed blood transfusions.

you need to see the dr, and tell them whats going on. tell them how many pads/tampons you are changing and how often and what size. tell them how long things last. get your iron levels tested. you need to make sure you arent anemic.

lots of medical things can cause psycho periods. i unfortunately had hellish periods just for no reason, well none they could ever find. super plus tampon with pad, changed every 45 minutes for 3 months at a wack!

the pill helped me until i had my daughter. your dr will be quick to give you the pill if you tell them whats going on. it will help regulate and lessen the bleeding. but make sure they do testing to see why you have this woman's hell. dont let them blow you off. i was 23 when i finally got things fixed, and it was a drastic measure!
