just a little rant...
Sep. 1st, 2004 03:03 pmmy mother always used to complain that she could feel her flow, like a gush, when she stood up. i never really knew what she meant until this year. i used to use tampons all the time, but i've found since i sit all day at work, pads are more comfortable, and it's easier to know when i need to change it. especially since some days i'm so light i can wear 1 pad for 8 hours.
it's just icky. and i'm traveling starting tomorrow night. pads are easier then, too.
i saw on here that some women use cloth pads. it sounds like a great idea, but i don't like the thought of taking my dirty pads to the laundromat, and the cat plays with any clothes i hang to dry. i'm sure she'd love to play with those.
so i figured i'd wait until the day i have my own washer and dryer to use.
has anyone here had bad experiences with cloth pads?
i'll go check the memories about that, too.

Date: 2004-09-01 02:57 pm (UTC)As far as only changing your pad once every 8 hours (wow, that's a light flow!), you could use a lower-level pad (one that's not as absorbant) and change it more often so that it doesn't get yucky and smelly. (Oh, I don't know if you're aware of this, but I find that the cloth pads don't get as icky of a smell as disposable ones do, I've always assumed that it was the plastic covers and gel inserts and who knows what else in the disposables!)

Date: 2004-09-02 06:31 am (UTC)i'm gonna have to look into this more now.
i really do have a very light flow the past few years. it'll be "heavy" for a day or two, which means i have to change my pad every 4 to 6 hours. at night, i barely bleed at all except for the first night. i have some overnight pads i'm going to use up (just a few left) but next time i thought i would just get some regular pads with wings.
i do try to change pads more often then every 8 hours just because they get so uncomfortable after so long, if nothing else! definitely looking into cloth pads now though. thanks!

Date: 2004-09-01 04:21 pm (UTC)I use Always Ultra Thins with wings. I swear by them. They're super thin, but hold a lot. I wear them even on my heaviest days, and never ever have problems with them. (And my heavy days are really heavy .. like the 'gushing' you were talking about.)
Just thought I'd share!
