my mother always used to complain that she could feel her flow, like a gush, when she stood up. i never really knew what she meant until this year. i used to use tampons all the time, but i've found since i sit all day at work, pads are more comfortable, and it's easier to know when i need to change it. especially since some days i'm so light i can wear 1 pad for 8 hours.
it's just icky. and i'm traveling starting tomorrow night. pads are easier then, too.
i saw on here that some women use cloth pads. it sounds like a great idea, but i don't like the thought of taking my dirty pads to the laundromat, and the cat plays with any clothes i hang to dry. i'm sure she'd love to play with those.
so i figured i'd wait until the day i have my own washer and dryer to use.
has anyone here had bad experiences with cloth pads?
i'll go check the memories about that, too.

Actually, if you want to take your dirty cloth pads to the laundry mat, you can just put them in a lingerie bag. I use a lingerie bag even at home so that I don't drop them on the floor (it's easy to drop a pad, a pair of panties, a sock, etc. - and I don't want to drop my pads on the laundry room floor next to the kitty litter...). People will only really see the lingerie bag and just assume that you've got underwear or socks in there.

As far as only changing your pad once every 8 hours (wow, that's a light flow!), you could use a lower-level pad (one that's not as absorbant) and change it more often so that it doesn't get yucky and smelly. (Oh, I don't know if you're aware of this, but I find that the cloth pads don't get as icky of a smell as disposable ones do, I've always assumed that it was the plastic covers and gel inserts and who knows what else in the disposables!)

You're welcome. I actually started buying my reusable items while I still had some disposables left. I keep them in the closet for guests, and occassionally, if I've been really bad about doing laundry, t hey come in handy! (Plus, I don't tend to keep the reusables in my desk at work, but it's always good to have a stash "just in case" ;-)

I've never used tampons. I just never really wanted to when I was younger, and I got so used to pads.. I didn't want to change when I got older.

I use Always Ultra Thins with wings. I swear by them. They're super thin, but hold a lot. I wear them even on my heaviest days, and never ever have problems with them. (And my heavy days are really heavy .. like the 'gushing' you were talking about.)

Just thought I'd share!
