OT question re: AIDS/HIV testing...

Are there ANY drugstores where I can get an Oral at-home HIV/AIDS test? I can find them to order online, but I lack the credit card to do so, and I would much prefer 20 minutes for results as opposed to 5-7 business days. I haven't been exposed, or unsafe, but someone I love desperately had the freakout of his life today regarding his past, and I want to put him at ease as soon as humanly possible.

Anyone able to help me?

if you call around to some places, there are some places that you should be able to get an HIV test result in a half hour or less. it may have to be the blood test, and not orasure, but orasure is very new and probably isn't easy to find yet. blood tests can be just as fast as the oral test and probably easier to find.

I checked their website, and all that came up under "HIV/AIDS test kit" was juice. I have no idea how *that* happened. I guess I'll have to call my local store. :)

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Kroger (supermarket) but I've seen them there a few times. Also, they had at home drug tests. Not that that is relative to this question.

Take him to planned parenthood. I was just there yesterday and noticed a male/female couple in the waiting room who were about to get tested together.

I had never really thought of PP as a resource for men before, but they'll do a simple blood test on just about anyone. I'd say call up your local PP clinic and ask them their protocol on HIV/AIDs testing.

if you can't find any otc tests, call your health department and see if they do rapid hiv testing. results are given in 20mins and the test should be free. good luck.

Thank you! I'm going to have the mother of all phone call sessions with the health dept, planned parenthood, and Kroger tomorrow. Meep. I will be so happy when he's tested and we have peace of mind. (I think he's okay.)

Along the same vein, the HIV resource centers in my area (Orlando), offer free RapidTest, OraSure, and the general bloodtest. Look those up in the phone book, I'm sure any big city has them.
