When I was young I had my first one in August and my second one in.....January, perhaps?

Yeah then it was about 4 months before the one after that...I'm 20 now (that all started about 6 years ago) and I'm JUST starting to be regular (like, within the same 10 days or so every month.)

Oh no. I'm telling you, some girls get lucky, but even those who are regular for years & years will sometimes start having crazy cycles for no reason.

Birth control would help you get a good idea of when it was going to come (within a few days) but I wouldn't start with that until I really needed to for whatever reason if I were you. And I don't usually carry a purse at all...typically a quarter for the dispenser and a fat wad of toilet paper can keep things under control until I can get to a proper tampon/pad.

Your best bet is to keep one in your backpack or locker ALL THE TIME just in case you ever need it (or if a friend ever does, for that matter) In fact, my winter coat has an inside pocket that I always keep a pen & a tampon in just in case I should ever need either of those things. They don't weigh a ton or take up much space so it's better to be safe than sorry.

As the other comment says, that's not at all unusual. I went nearly a year between my first and second period, then settled into a regular cycle within a few months.

I think if it's not here after about a year and a half, that would be the time to see your doctor. Before i went onto the pill i'd go months and months without a period and i've been having periods for years. My mom had her menarche and didn't have another for a year so absolutely anything is normal.
