Inducing a period (not medicinally!)
Sep. 13th, 2004 05:54 pmI just wondered whether this had happened to anyone else. Last week I was on holiday in a hilly and remote part of Wales, next to the sea. I did a lot of walking and strenuous cycling, and although I cycle to work I don't have that far to go. I normally have a 35 day cycle but my period started on day 25. The future mother in law reckoned it was the exercise, but I wondered whether it was because I was next to the sea, or because the moon was shining through the window, as these are all things I have heard affect your periods. Or is it a load of hogwash? All I know is I was glad I had some lunapads just in case as I didn't bother to bring my divacup!

i really don't know. it really sounds like coincidence, but it's an intriguing one.
i don't think moon light could make you menstruate unless there's somethign to do with *light* when you're trying to sleep and menstruation. studies show that men & women exposed to light while sleeping are more likely to develop breast cancer. something about messing with melatonin or seratonin (i always get them confused). so maybe having your mela/seratonin levels messed with could mess up your period? just an idea.

Date: 2004-09-16 06:51 pm (UTC)Now, I don't know about that, but I do know that women who are living close to eachother will begin to menstruate at the same time. My mother and I now live in the same town, so I see her at least once a week, sometimes more than that, and for the first time since I moved out of home, we're going back to having the same cycle it seems. I remember at school on a trip to the beach only like 3 girls were going in the water. We found out that like 95% of all girls in our grade had their period!
So perhaps you were closer to another woman - which effected your cycle?
