I just wondered whether this had happened to anyone else. Last week I was on holiday in a hilly and remote part of Wales, next to the sea. I did a lot of walking and strenuous cycling, and although I cycle to work I don't have that far to go. I normally have a 35 day cycle but my period started on day 25. The future mother in law reckoned it was the exercise, but I wondered whether it was because I was next to the sea, or because the moon was shining through the window, as these are all things I have heard affect your periods. Or is it a load of hogwash? All I know is I was glad I had some lunapads just in case as I didn't bother to bring my divacup!

i have no idea sorry... it sounds like old wives tales though. then again i don't really get the moon & period connection. i live near the sea and have yet to experience anything weird yet.

personally i develop a radar for hob nobs when my period is near. mmm hob nobs.

this is one of those things i wonder about but always forget to look into. thank you for reminding me. my aunt says she knew exactly what day i was going to be pregnant because she watched the moon. she showed up the day before my mom went into labor (she was right on). dunno what's up with that.

i really don't know. it really sounds like coincidence, but it's an intriguing one.

i don't think moon light could make you menstruate unless there's somethign to do with *light* when you're trying to sleep and menstruation. studies show that men & women exposed to light while sleeping are more likely to develop breast cancer. something about messing with melatonin or seratonin (i always get them confused). so maybe having your mela/seratonin levels messed with could mess up your period? just an idea.

They say that women used to menstruate on the full moon, but today (because we keep lights on well into the night) we have broken this cycle. They say that if you only use soft candle light after sunset then you'll revert back to menstruating every full moon. So light would seem to have some effect there.

Now, I don't know about that, but I do know that women who are living close to eachother will begin to menstruate at the same time. My mother and I now live in the same town, so I see her at least once a week, sometimes more than that, and for the first time since I moved out of home, we're going back to having the same cycle it seems. I remember at school on a trip to the beach only like 3 girls were going in the water. We found out that like 95% of all girls in our grade had their period!

So perhaps you were closer to another woman - which effected your cycle?
