I just got my period *first time EVER* ON Saturday..The First day it was really light...and I had mild Cramps not too bad but the next day my stomach hurt ALOT and it was pretty heavy..also I had dirreah...I mean like I dont know if its because of my period...i mean is that normal? And then TODAY I almost threw up one time during school but I settled down almost immediatly after that...but I still would like to know have any of you ever experienced dirreah with your periods?...should I be concerned?

As far as I know, it's very common. Think of it this way -- your uterus is cramping to help get rid of the blood and tissue, but the cramping will affect the muscles around it, too, since they are in such close proximity.

Happens to lots of people, myself included. Just one of the perks of that time of the month! ;)

it's totally normal. I get it occasionally. As the first person said, that area is cramping so everything around there gets affected too.

i get that too, pretty much every month, to different degrees. for me, those symptoms(plus others, like backaches, headaches, ect.) will last anywhere from 6 hours, to 6 days.

congratulations, your offically a woman.

yep. dirreah is very common, so is gassyness. its like our bodies are saying "stay the hell away!!! i'm not in a good mood!!"

Hormones are what cause us to menstruate. Now think about a woman who's pregnant: she throws up, gets diarrhea, gets fevers. well it's like that... Hormones do different things to different people. (my sister is really sensative to them, so now that she's pregnant she feels like she has the flu 24-7) This is your FIRST time, so your body is reacting differently to it than someone who's had their period for 12 years. Once your body gets accustom to the hormones changing around you will be over THAT lovely part of being a woman and into the next wonderful stage.

Congrats btw, welcome to the hut.

That all is pretty common. I don't get nausea and rarely get diahrea, but I get wicked stomacheaches on day 2 or 3 almost without fail. I think of it as an opportunity to stay in, brew some ginger tea, round up some chocolate and watch Family Guy and Futurama DVD.

As others have said, it's extremely common.

What I want to know is why it seems that 99% of people can't freakin' spell diarrhea?? It's not hard!

Assuming everyone's American...

I don't know, i guess it's just laziness really. It's the same with any word, it doesn't take much to look it up in a dictionary!

Well I was more commenting on the fact that of everyone who replied, only one person spelled it right. Bizarre. I also don't quite understand your spelling, as it isn't even phonetic... unless you pronounce "die-ah-ree-ah" as "die-ree-ah" or "dih-ree-ah" I don't understand how you arrived at "dirreah" as a spelling.

Eh just weird, that's all.

I absolutely always get diarrhoea. Chances are you'l get it most cycles. People who suffer with it tend to always suffer with it. Our bodies have their own ways of having periods, everyone's different.

i also get the diarrhea. i complained to a doctor & she told me that the muscles in your colon are the same kind of muscle as in your uterus, meaning they're also affected by the hormones that say, "flex & push, get this stuff out!" a lot of people have mentioned parts of this, but i thought i'd bring it all together.

my periods used to be no big deal. no cramps, no heavy bleeding, no diarrhea, yay! then they took a turn for the worse. for a few years there i was embarassed to go out because i had to poo every hour or so. now it's usually just a quick bout of diarrhea and i'm ok, as far as that goes (the cramps are what keep me in now). what i'm getting at is what others have also said. things change as you get older & go through stresses & diet changes etc. with luck your body will go easier on you as the years go by.

Oh yeah, for some reason I have to use the bathroom (in that form) a lot during my period. Congrats, by the way. Its a rough road but it gets easier in a way every month. :)

on about the second and third days of my period I often seem to alternate between Diarrhoea and feeling constipated (in the same day)...So all in all I feel generally yuck. But then I figure it is the bodies way of saying "just sit here on the toilet - at least you don't need a pad here"
