I don't normally mind having my period, but this month is not fun at ALL. It came yesterday, and heralded its arrival with crazy cramps and nausea, which isn't very usual for me. I normally use my Diva Cup when I have my period, but last month I had a recurring yeast infection AND bacterial vaginosis, so my doctor advised me to just wear pads this cycle to be safe. I haven't used pads in such a long time, and I used to use basic Always with wings, etc., but in April I became vegan and began researching companies, etc. So I bought some Natracare organic cotton pads at the co-op, figuring that they would work fine. I'm only on day two of pad-wearing and I'm going insane! They're leaking, they're humungous, they don't have wings, and now my vulva is all irritated from having the pads there. About a half-hour ago I couldn't take it anymore, and so I grabbed my Keeper and headed to the bathroom. It took five (!!) tries to get it in, but it finally worked. I'm happy to not be wearing a pad anymore (now I just have a thin liner on), but it feels like entire vulva is covered in tiny papercuts. Everything is sore and aches and hurts, even inside my vagina, and I'm grumpy and crampy and headachy. Arrrrrrgh.

aw =/
I know some of the pad companies use too much wrapping and all that but I can't stand those huge-oversized pads..like the ones they give you in the nurses office if you get it in school. Oh god. I can't stand those...so I feel your pain.

I can't use Natracare and the new Always formula makes me break out in a rash. I use reusable pads, made from cotton flannel. perhaps that would be a decent compromise while you're trying to beat the yeasties and BV?

When I used to solely rely on pads, my periods were going ON & ON for like 7-12 days at a time and by day 5-ish my nether-region always felt like it was rubbed completely raw by those things. The wings were nice, but the "sharp" edge of the pad always scratched my inner thighs and made them kind of itch and sting.

I believe Kotex makes a more bearable one, but everyone in my family seemed to accidentally buy the icky-poo scented ones. I think the packaging is REALLY similar to the unscented ones so if you must go back to pads, be careful shopping!! You also might be better off buying a few yards of flannel and making a couple of your own.

i haven't tried the cloth pads personally, but from what i've been reading here, you should try those if you have to keep wearing pads. i keep thinking about it. it's just a matter of making up my mind, which i'm not very good at.
i've never had much problem with pads. i do hate the wings except at night. they're never comfortable. at night i only use them because the pad gets all bunched up and moves around so much.

Lube those papercuts! The KY liquid (Don't buy the warming one-'k'?) is lighter than most lubes so it's more like your own natural lube. Wash up goo before going to the bathroom, do what you need to do, rinse you hands again, (clean the area if needed, remove smegma) lube up, and then zip up and wash up and the get out of the bathroom!

It'll protect against chafing and will allow you to heal faster.

Feel better RSN!
