Brown/Black spotting?
Sep. 15th, 2004 04:59 pmWell, I have a question for all of you. My period usually lasts 6 or 7 days, and the flow is pretty normal. But this month, I had a heaver than usual flow for the first day, normal for the second, and then brown spotting for the next 4 or 5. The thing is, about a week later, I started with the brown spotting again. It just ended today, so it lasted about a total of, oh say 5 more days.
The thing I'm worried about is if I could be pregnant or not. I know it sounds kind of silly, considering it sounds like I got my period and all, but after checking a few places on the internet, I'm kind of spooked. Me and my SO use condoms of course, but I'm paranoid. I was really stressed about vacations/etc. last month, so that could definetly be the cause of it.
but what I really want to know is why there was so much 'old blood' and why it stopped for a few days in between, and also what my chances of being pregnant are. You guys are awesome. Thanks.

If you have had a period, you are not likely to be pregnant.

Date: 2004-09-15 05:27 pm (UTC)It is possible (http://www.ivillagehealth.com/experts/womens/qas/0,,242103_151207,00.html) to be pregnant and still have bleeding. It's a matter of semantics whether one can really call such bleeding a "period." Many women will have a small amount of bleeding when the embryo implants in the uterus, and often this occurs at the time of an expected period. Sometimes infections that irritate the cervix can lead to bleeding in early pregnancy, many times following intercourse. Small separations of the placenta can produce bleeding. Women who are starting to miscarry will bleed.
it's not likely, but it does happen. if you are nervous you should go get a pregnancy test or talk to a doctor.
