is there an effective way of getting rid of pubic hair?
although i've never waxed my arms or legs before, having armpit and pubic hair makes me a bit uncomfortable. i've only shaved in my life.

especially when i'm menstruating, my hair tends to get bloody, wet and hard to wash. before, in the past, i would get queasy at the sight of bloody hair, and tried to clean myself as much as i can. when shaving it, it's easy to shave off the hair near to my tummy, but most of the hair grows underneath, where i often don't like the razorblade to cut against. i've cut myself several times in the past, and a cut down there sounds very painful.

can you wax, if possible?

It's easier to trim it i think. That way it's shorter, softer and you don't get any cuts. I use an electric shaver and pass it over the hair so it trims it rather than shaves it short. I think you can get special trimmers for that too.

Would Nair work?
My sister said she used it and it didn't hurt, and the hair is growing back, but it's not itchy at all.

I don't know. But I was thinking about posting the same exact question about pubic hair removal.

Nair would probably work, tho I would assume you'd have to leave it on for a longer period of time. Putting all those chemicals that close to sensitive tissue makes me nervous, tho. :-\

i dont know if you should use nair for that just because it says on the bottle NOT to use it for that... some people have reactions to nair on their arms and such so if you were going to use it, test a little bit of the area first.

Nair is wonderful for it, you might have to shave a lil to get to the spots you dont want the nair to be to close to, but its good.

You're not supposed to use it on "sensitive skin" so you could for the waistband-to-pubic-bone area but nothing south of that.

I used to use Nair and it never hurt me at all but being completely shaved down there isn't healthy. Your pubic hair is there to trap bacteria and I used to get way more yeast infections that way.

Nowadays I just use a good old fashioned pair of haircutting scissors to trim the bush as close as I can. I am happy with this method because it is well groomed but not bald. I highly suggest it.

I tend to get razor burn or at least bumps every time I shave (doesn't stop me, though...I still do it about 3-4 times a week) but any kind of cream or lotion after the shower REALLY causes a lot of irritation. I started using baby oil in lieu of that after-shave lotion that Skintimate & Jergens makes and not only does it feel real nice & keep the pricklies at bay, but it also costs like $1 for a bottle that lasts FOREVER.

NOTE: If you're gonna use baby oil, put on just a littttttle bit while you're still wet from the shower otherwise it wont absorb and you're gonna get a greasy hoo-ha.

I've tried "unscented lotions" (which are still scented, I'm sure) like Eucerin & Nivea, but those always leave a little sting.

what would baby powder do?

I think that'd be beneficial to those who DO shave since you wouldn't naturally have anything to help absorb moisture down there anymore. That would help cut down on the occurence of little infections.

Any lotion with alcohol as an ingredient is going to sting. I learned that when I dry-shaved one day... thank God it was just my legs.

I'm pro-waxing personally. Once I got a bikini wax, I never wanted to shave again. I also trim, because I didn't want a brazilian .

i've gotten waxes from professional salons several times. after watching them enough, i felt comfortable doing it myself w/microwave wax. you can find it in the shaving section at a drug store. it's cheap and no blades. :)

oh no, no, i wasn't suggesting that she do it herself!

lol...i was thinking that the best way to get to the point of waxing yourself is to go get if professionally done several times and get the hang of how it's done.

sorry if there was any mis-interpretation there!

i just read one of the articles at vaginapagina.com about this last night (the one by violet blue) and it's highly recommended. i went out and bought the necessary paraphernalia and i'm going to shave tonight!

Remington makes a women's shaver. It's really a beard trimmer made with purple plastic instead of black, with the settings from 4 to 1, or you can take the guard off entirely if you want to be bare. It's about $15 and comes with a cute silver mesh case and brush to clean the blades.

I call it a hedge trimmer, but that's just me. I trim at about a 2, because I don't like blood tangles either, but shaving too close irritates my skin.

Igia also has a ladies trimmer, but I have the one for facial hair, and it's my opinion that if it sucks at getting those little hairs, it will probably snag on the hair down there, and that would be bad.

Meep.

What I do is right before my period I shave the top/tummy pubic area with a razor (just to clean up lines). Then I use one of those bikini trimmers that some one above mentioned. I set the comb to the shortest setting and trim everything south fairly close to the skin. This seems to work pretty well for me during 'that time.' Plus, I'm kinda put off by the idea of having a stranger wax my private parts, but that's just me and I'm incredibly modest. Another tip for keeping clean during your period (this may have been suggested before, sorry if I'm repeating) is to get a little squirt bottle and fill it with warm water to use as a little 'portable bidet wash.' I use one first thing in the morning and it works wonderfully.

you could trim with scissors. but be careful.

i wax. it leaves everything nice and clean, i love it. i've always done it myself but you should probably go to a professional.
