Sep. 21st, 2004 06:00 pmIt may be too late to be asking this, but... I'm taking ortho-tricyclen for my skin and started my placebo week Sunday. My period hasn't started yet, as is usually the case, but I've realized I really might want to try to skip it so it won't be around this weekend.
Is it too late to start up on non-placebos to try to skip it? I'm afraid of screwing up my body more than anything else.
Thank you for any input.

Date: 2004-09-22 08:02 am (UTC)or did you choose ortho out of all the bc's because it can help your skin?
i took ortho for about 4 years. i'm on a generic version now. it didn't really help my skin. maybe a little, but that could also just be from growing up.
if the only reason you're on ortho is for your acne, just stop now. there are other medications that work better for acne.
if you're on bc for contraception/regulation reasons, don't expect too much in the way of skin help. it "can" help your skin, but not nearly as much as medicine that is designed to fight acne.
as for skipping, what does your doctor say? you might want to confer with your doc before skipping periods. he/she can at least make sure you do it safely and correctly.

Date: 2004-09-22 08:55 am (UTC)But anyhow. That particular pill is tri-phasic (several different doses rather than just one of hormonoes through the month) and so even if you did completely skip the placebo pills, it's likely you'd still bleed. (Not a given, but likely.) So at this point, I think you would still at least get spotting if you went back onto the active pills... sorry :-/ no guarantee but I'd be surprised if you didn't.
