Hi

I'm in the beginnings of my very first yeast infection, naturally I'm pretty uncomfortable.

I'm getting ready to go to the health food store to pick up some acidophilus capsules....but I have a question...

I just started my period today as well (what a combination!). Will this affect my treatment with the capsules at all? Do I need to do anything different because I'm on my period?

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Well yogurt is also said to help yeast infections (my mom used that when she had hers) and it's probably a safer alternative than acidophilus capsules.

i've read in multiple places plain yogurt will relieve the itch of yeast infections. it's probably worth a shot.

I've had the same thing happen to me before. I went with an insert and put on a pad. Your period shouldn't have any affect on the treatment.. you want to treat it asap so you don't go crazy from discomfort.

You could go to the gyno/planned parenthood and be like "ok hey... I'm bleeding give me something in pill form" I did that once when I was on my period and got a YI. They helped me out :-) Or you could just used the stuff at the drug store (I'm allergic to it! WOO! yeah found that out the hard way). It will still work, but it will be even more messy if it's a cream.

get it quick or it will drive you nuuuuts!

As long as you take it at the same 2 times each day and KEEP IT IN THE 'FRIDGE, the pills shouldnt mess with anything. I had a lot of issues related to a bout of pneumonia I had a while back and my stomach was pretty screwed up. I started taking that, and really it's not so much a drug or a chemical...

It really just helps you maintain a "healthy intestinal flora" which means that it will help your body produce anything you might be lacking from either not eating right or having some issue like a YI or the flu. It's really no different than taking a supplement when your iron or your calcium is low.
