Good afternoon - I have a question that hopefully someone can help me out with.

I started the pill while I was still a virgin, strictly for the purpose of regulating the severe sickness that I get each month. Good news - the pill helped. Bad news - it also made my migraines more frequent and more severe.

I couldn't handle the migraines any more, so I stopped the pill; however, over the past three to four months, my stomach issues have gotten much worse. I was throwing up all morning today, and finally feel better.

I am caught in the middle here, and am wondering whether anyone knows of a DIFFERENT remedy that may help my tummy problems. I don't know if there is something herbal, or if I should take something for menopause... I just need some input.

Thanks! :-)

You could try a different pill-Mircette (and the generic Kariva) are recommended specifically for women who get migraines because five out of the seven inactive pills contain tiny amounts of estrogen (not enough to affect protection) to reduce the incidence of migraines. Different pills may be less likely to cause headaches because of the different hormones they contain.

You could try something like Seasonale, which is three months of active hormones, and one week of inactive pills, allowing only four periods a year.

You could try something like Depo-provera, which stops menstruation in many women.

You could try treating the symptoms you're having only-getting something for nausea for example, to take when you're menstruating.

You could try naturopathic remedies like ginger or slippery elm for your nausea and vomitting.

my mom always makes me cinnamon stick tea whenever i get ANY tummy issues. it always seems to help. just get some whole cinnamon STICKS and put them in a pot of water, about 5-7c of water and just let it boil for a bit and then leave the sticks in to seep.
sugar to taste in your cup and there ya go.

I always got migraines with auras since I was a kid and I went on the pill (triphasil) to regulate and for killer cramps...i ended up getting a migraine so bad that both my eyes blurred over and i couldnt see anything...so i was taken off that right away....a few months after the cramps, sickness, etc was too much so i went to try a new pill. They put me on Alesse and I've been on it ever since with no problems. It's been about 3 or 4 years now on this one... sometimes all is takes is a low-dose pill!

i started off with alesse, but it wasn't strong enough to regulate my system. i spotted for 2 weeks instead of bleeding for 1.
i hadn't ever really thought about my bc affecting my migraines, but it could be true, except that the migraines got better the longer i was on ortho. this past year they've been getting pretty frequent again, but not as painful. i switched to a generic brand, but it's the same as ortho.
hmmm... i might have to take this to the migraine community...

ah...yeah ive definitely had months of starting my period earlier, or spotting...but the doc really didn't want to switch me...and said it would probably be better to live that out then to go through the troubles of finding a different pill...and im kool with that

hopefully you get some better help :P

i used ortho for about 4 years, then switched to a generic version because it's cheaper. it does wonders for regulating. lightened my flow and reduced cramps.
i don't think it's really effected my migraines. stress seems to have more effect on those than anything else.
if your doc is worried about your migraines, then i agree that it's easier to deal with the spotting and stuff than mess around a lot with bc. when i switched to ortho i had to not take any bc for about 3 months to clear out my system, then stay on the ortho for 3 months to be sure it was through my system. trying all different kinds would take forever!

i don't know how to do fancy links, so do an interest search for migraines and i'm sure it will pop up. i like it.
made me feel a little better to know that A)a lot of people get migraines and B)a lot of people have much worse migraines than me.

1. What pill are you taking?
2. Do you take it at night?

I'm not sure if this helps, but I'll give it a try.

I ended up switching from the pill to the shot (Depo-Provera) because I had severe stomach problems and they thought the pill made it worse. It actually helped for a while. I decided to switch back to the pill after a few years because I was going off to college and where I go, they don't offer it at the clinic. I also found out that if I take my pill around dinner time, it helps me to not feel sick in the mornings anymore.

(By the way, I visited the doctor, got a test, and it came out negative. Nothing is wrong, I'm fine, and it was just the switch to the pill that made me not get my period. Thanks so much to everyone who answered me.)

I was told that I shouldn't take normal combination b/c because I USED to get headaches and that could mean that the b/c would increase my chances of having siezures or a stroke (!) SO...

You could try the "mini-pill" which isn't a combination pill. It's harder to take "the right way" if you're using it to keep from having babies, but for stomach issues you might want to discuss that with your doctor.
