please correct me if i'm wrong

last night, my boyfriend told me that the fact that i've been having spotting the week before my period lately worries him. he's the first to admit he knows nothing about menstruation, but i didn't spot before.
now, in the past year and a half, i have graduated, moved in with the boyf, started my career, become an aunt, and changed from ortho tri-cyclene to trinessa, a generic version. it seems that the spotting a week before i rag began when i switched to trinessa. i don't spot every month, but most months.
J (the boy) thinks i need to talk to my doctor about it, but i'm not due for another gyno visit till december or january.
i told him that a lot of women, my mom included, have some spotting between periods.
was i right? or am i just the confused one who really should go see the doc?

You're right. Some women *do* have spotting. And the fact that it started when you switched to trinessa makes me think it's somehow related.

Plus you've had a lot going on lately, so that can throw things out of wack.

Of course, if you're genuinely concerned, you can go to the doc for a professional opinion. It may ease your minds.

I was on ortho and then the pharmacy started refilling my prescription with trinessa. When I went in to my check up I was asked if I had any different reactions to trinessa, because since it is generic it uses different fillers than ortho and some women complain of issues they never had while on ortho. It's probably from switching brands, so if it bothers you you might want to go back to ortho, even though it costs more.

I'd say go. Spotting between periods *can* be a sign of other problems and it's best to rule them out so you know for sure it's normal for you.

Even if you don't have an appointment to see your doc for a while, you can still call & ask one of the nurses. If she thinks it's something that she can't offer advice on she'll generally ask the doc or set up a quickie appointment for sometime a little sooner than next year to ask some questions and maybe take a couple of pokes at ya.
