my period just ended two days ago and this morning i had unprotected sex. i was supposed to start the pill this coming sunday, but now i dont know if i should because of the sex. recently in the past month i took plan b (EC) due to a broken condom and i dont want to take it again. does anyone know of any pregnancy tests that have early detection and if so which ones? i dont want to start the pill if i might be pregnant. any help please?

No pregnancy test is going to be effective this early; it takes 1-2 days for an egg to be fertilized and 1-2 weeks for a fertilized egg to be implanted. Before that time your body doesn't release the hormone that pregnancy tests detect.

You can only get pregnant if you're ovulating and most women don't ovulate so early in their cycle, but it would help if we knew when your period started not when it ended.

Well, you count your cycle from the day you start your period, so you're on the 5th or 6th day of your cycle. Assuming you've got a regular 28-ish day cycle, chances are pretty good that you weren't ovulating, since you generally ovulate 10-14 days before your period.

I can't tell you what you should or shouldn't do, all I can tell you is that I think the chances of you being pregnant are pretty small, and that there's no hard and fast proof that taking birth control pills initially if you don't realize you're pregnant hurts the fetus.

Well if your period just ended 2 days ago your not going to be fertile so you really shouldnt have anything to worry about. I see no reason as to why you cant start your birthcontrol pills. You should of already started taking them. You should start taking them the day after your period ends.

What are you talking about? Some women do ovulate that early in their cycle, and most women start their pills on the first day of their period or the Sunday immediately following.

Why would you wait until the Sunday after your period to start the pill? Doctors always tell women to start it the Sunday OF their period, not the Sunday after their period. How strange that your doctor said to wait till your period was over. If you take a look at the pamphlet that came with your pill packet, it should tell you the same thing. I mean, you can take it any time, but the packet that came with my pills (and also, what my doctor told me) said that if you don't start while you're bleeding you're not protected until you've been on the pills for a full month.

If you had unprotected sex, you do need to get Plan B again. I know it sucks, but if you had unprotected sex, you can get pregnant. If you give the doctor a call, they can also tell you when to start the pill (which should be during your next period).

taking the pill doesn't hurt if you are pregnant. as others have said, the best time to start would have been this past sunday. but, that's in the past now, so.... if you really don't want to be pregnant, bite the bullet and take plan B again. then start the pill this coming sunday. if you don't get your period on schedule, take a test.

There's no proof that taking BC will hurt a baby if you *are* pregnant, just for furutre reference. Not to say that you are, but that seems to be the concern with not starting a.s.a.p. now.
