First off, I just wanted to say "hey!" to everyone. I've been lurking for a bit and decided to finally post. So "hey everyone." :-)

Ovulation sucks. Well, unless you're trying to get pregnant, Ovulation sucks. This morning was quite a rude announcement. That annoying pain/discomfort was there near the right ovary for 'bout 2 hours. Gah, how annoying!

Until recently, I hadn't really realized what this little pain in my lower abdomen was, but after speaking with a friend, it was like the lightbulb came on. Duh! ;-)

My friend (and her ob-gyn told her) that some women can actually feel ovulation. Not all women, but it's not uncommon.

I'm 28 (for about another month and a half) and I've never really noticed it before until recently. I think I've just always dismissed it as nothing and I'm fine (no cysts on these ovaries!).

I was just curious...how many of you have the discomfort when you ovulate?

i definitely do. for me it hurts so bad for about 5 minutes that i have to stop whatever I am doing and just curl up in a ball. but only for a few minutes. after that it is just a dull ache for a little while.

I do! I usually get a migraine too, blasted headaches... I had never noticed it until I was about 22. One month the pain was so bad I made an emergancy trip to the University Health Center (I was still in college then). They checked me out, told me I was fine, and that a little pain was normal for some women. Mittelschmartz, they called it. It a German term meaning, literally, middle pain. It's never bothered me as much as that month. Now I kind of look forward to it since it's another sign that sex needs to stop for a week or so. ;)

Oh! Question: Do you notice it more on one side? For me, my right ovary is generally more tender. Sometimes I hardly notice when the left ovulates.

i do sometimes... usually not bad, nothing more than a couple ibuprofen make go away. i noticed it around age 14, and it's been there ever since (i'm 18 now).... occasionally it's pretty bad, but usually not much. i never thought it was that uncommon...

Yup. Actually, it can get quite acute from time to time, though usually it's on par with menstrual cramps. Which I'm currently living with, so I'm in the right place.

It should be in tones of beige and burnt orange in my opine - that way, it would look like the inside of a hut.

But I agree on the red and black thing - no need to remind us, yes?

I would. I never knew what it was until I took health class in 10th grade and learned that the ovaries generally alternate, one will ovulate one month and the other the next. I connected it to a pinching pain I woul feel on alternate sides of my lower abdomen every month.

Right sided dull aching

Yep Huntress, I hear ya girl.
I, too, never realized until about a year ago that the dull aching I was feeling was probably ovulation. Instead of intense pain for me,it's more of a dull ache on my right side.

I guess maybe that'll come in handy when I'm trying to have babies. Feel the dull ache, grab your man in the next what? 72 hours? and have some crazy good sex. :*)

hey!

Welcome aboard! :) glad to have you here.

For what it's worth, my girlfriend seems to detect her ovulation more on her left side than her right. I've been tracking her fertility for about 8 months now, and it seems to happen every other time, thus far.

Usually, she seems to feel it mildly, but not as a pain.
