This is my first post, so.. hello everybody!!

Anyways, I went to the gynocologist to get some birth control pills. I had tried Tri-Cyclen Ortho Lo for a while before by going to Planned Parenthood. I really liked it and didn't get any (noticeable) side affects. However, when I went to "cash-in" my perscription at my local pharmacy, they gave me something called "Tri-Nessa" which is the generic version of Tri-Cyclen.

I've been on this generic version for about three months now, and it's hard to tell if it's because of the pills or not but I've been feeling a little strange lately. I've been very dizzy, get headaches often, and feel as if I'm on my period throughout most of the month...(cramps in my stomache & legs, bloated, bitchyness..)

Does anybody know the differences between the two? I thought that the generic version was exactly the same.. but I could be wrong. I'm thinking about asking the doctor to give me the real thing, but I'm quite worried that it will be a lot more expensive and it might not even be because it's organic.. if that makes any sense.

I would just like to know if anybody has experienced similar symptoms by using either Tri-Nessa (Or another organic version) or Tri-Cyclen or even if they noted a difference between the two (or another organic perscription vs. the real thing). Sorry if that seems kind of a lot.. basically, any information would be useful.

Thanks!

I was on ortho and then my pharmacy started giving me Trinessa as well. I didn't have any awful side effects from it, but I did feel a little different. Generic medications use different fillers, and that's why you might end up with different side effects. Now that I'm using a different pharmacy they're giving me yet another generic brand, Tri-Sprintec. The brand changes drive me crazy. If you go back to ortho it will cost you more, but if it'd make you feel better it might be worth it.

i was on ortho tri-cyclen for 4 years before switching to trinessa. it didn't really give me any different side effects, but because they use different fillers, like superho said, they can give different side effects.
the thing that caught my attention in your post, though, is that you were on the tri-cyclen lo. you might want to double check with your pharmacist to see if the hormone levels are the same. that could be causing the side effects.
if i remember right, tri-cyclen lo has a smaller hormone dose than regular tri-cyclen. and trinessa is made like regular tri-cyclen, which means it would have more hormone in it.
i'm not a professional, however. i highly suggest talking to your doctor or pharmacist.

difference

I'm not sure on the specific difference of the two, but i do know for a fact that for the fda to pass a generic medicine it has to have the same BASIC active ingredients as the original. HOWEVER, it does happen on occasion that the major drug companies get a bug up their assed and force the generic co.s to add or delete from this list to prevent copyright or patent infringement or some other stupid shit. Also, the inactive ingredients are very often different and may cause an allergic reaction or adverse effects. Best idea: call the doc! they r usually very cool about these things, and if he/she is not.....SWITCH NOW! It's a matter of personal safety to have a doc you trust and who trusts and listens to your gut instincts! hope i was helpful!
