ok. my last pap was my first with a new doctor after offically moving to kansas. he was awesome.
but now that pap time is creeping up on me again, i have an md that i've seen about my migraines. i was thinking it would be a good idea to go to her for everything (if she does paps, that is). that way she already knows what meds i'm on, what the results of all the tests are and all that fun shite.
but i'm one of those people that likes to get other people's opinions before i do anything.
a.) good idea
b.) bad idea
c.) i couldn't care less

Unless you have a problem that you specifically need to a gyno for, there is no reason not to have your paps done by your regular doctor if you're comfortable with it (unless they don't perform them). If your doctor runs into anything they can't treat/feel you need an expert for, they can refer you.

It all depends on whether or not you're comfortable with your gp or internist doing your routine gyn care. I'm not-partly because I'm not all that enamored of my GP, and partly because I've got dysmenorrhea, and I feel like a specialist will have more experience treating that.

my pcp is my gynecologist and she does all my referrals if I need them. but I also have pcos. any general practitioner CAN do paps, but they can slow things up if there is a problem and might not know all the right questions to ask.

temporarily, I don't see any problem with it. long term, you're going to want to get your yearly done by a gynecologist.

I have and would have my doctor (male) do my pap smear - but he won't prescribe anything he doesn't know about, and he didn't know enough about the Patch to feel comfortable writing the Rx for it, so I had to go to a gyne for that.

I'm kinda bummed about that, because if I don't go for an appointment that is covered by insurance (i.e., annual exam) then it costs me $80 just to walk in and get a prescription. :(

If you've got no conditions that require specialized attention, I can't think of any reason not to go to your GP. In other countries, it's fairly common. I go to a gyno because I got an IUD which GPs don't do, but if it wasn't for the IUD, I'd probably see my GP for my yearly pap.
