Alright, this isn't really a question about my period, more lack there of. First off, I don't believe I'm pregnant. I have had sex once in the past year, and he didn't finish off. (we did not use protection)
I got my PMS right on schedule, so I figured the period would be coming sometime soon after. I was wrong. I am 2 weeks late, and I'm worried sick. I know that stressing over it, really isn't helping any, but its so hard not to worry.
My periods have been like clockwork for about the past 5 years or so. Every 28-30 days BAM! there it was. Well, last month, I was 10 days late for my little visitor. This month, I am 14 days late and counting.
I have scheduled a dr.'s appt, which was originally meant to get me back on birth control, and now I guess to find out whats going on with my plumbing. I have big fears that there is a giant tumor blocking my falopian tube, and taking my egg hostage.
I have been really stressed lately with some personal stuff, and work stuff. And I have been late before due to stress... but NEVER this late.
Please help!

Date: 2004-10-28 08:30 am (UTC)One thing - you said you were on birth control and you're looking to go back on it. Was the birth control what was making your period exactly every 28 days? If you're not on it, your schedule will probably go whacky again.
Have fun at the doctor's! ;-)

Date: 2004-10-28 08:51 am (UTC)Stress can really throw a cycle off. Stress has played havoc with my cycle since I've had a cycle. The longest I've had between periods has been close to 90 days. I was just out of college, and didn't have a job. Didn't drop that egg till I got one. Ovulated the day I got the call that said, "you're hired." Got my period exactly 10 days later. During my first week of work. But that's another story.
You don't say how long ago you & your boyfriend had sex. It only takes once, & he doesn't have to finish off, for you to get pregnant. You also can have your period right up until your due date. My partner & I both know people who have had regular (like clockwork) periods throughout all or part of their pregnancies.
In any case, I do hope everything went well.

I imagine it is stress... I'm in the process of moving away from my ex right now, and moving into my own place, with a new boyfriend. Plus work has been a little crazy.

Date: 2004-10-28 10:52 am (UTC)Ovulation is a funny thing. Those eggs won't drop if your body doesn't feel like it's "safe" to make babies. . .and your period won't come if you don't drop that egg. (Everyone says that the period is late, but actually what is delayed is the ovulation. The period is usually 5 - 14 days after ovulation.)
If you weren't going back on the pill, I'd suggest keeping track of or charting your cycle. I've been insanely irregular all my life, and that was the only thing that really let me get a handle on what was going on. But the pill keeps things more or less regulated for you. Even so, keeping little notes, even on your calendar, about how you feel on the days leading up to your period can get you more familiar with how your body responds to the hormonal changes. Then you're not just going along with only a calendar date to guide you, waiting for the flow. You can say, "hey, I haven't felt symptom x or craving y or emotion z yet," at least a little while before your period's late. Takes a lot of the anxiety out of it, and makes one more aware of what one's body is trying to communicate.
Just my opinion, though.

Date: 2004-10-28 11:03 am (UTC)I haven't kept up with my cycle in so long, I just kind of knew "about when" it was supposed to come. But since I wasn't really sexually active... I wasn't worried.
Thanks so much for all of your input
