spotting and a pregnancy test
Dec. 14th, 2004 10:18 amI'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I didn't quite know where else to ask, I apologize if this causes any inconvenience!!
But anyways, for the past couple days I have been spotting quite a bit, which is abnormal for me so I was suspicious of pregnancy. However I noticed some blood today in the mix of the spotting.
My question is, if I took a home pregnancy test, would my results be altered with the presence of blood/ spotting? I would not want to find out it says I am pregnant when really I might not be or vice versa...
Do a lot of people encounter spotting with their periods, especially with the pill?

Date: 2004-12-14 07:40 am (UTC)Being on the pill can allow you to have break through bleeding. Also, being early on in pregnancy can result in slight spotting. If you're on the pill, though, and you take it on time, every day then you're probably just experiencing an issue with your period being affected by the hormones in the pill.

Date: 2004-12-14 08:22 am (UTC)- Blood should not affect the resuolts of a pregnancy test. By the way, it's far more common to have a "false negative" (teh test is negative thought you're actually pregnant) than a "false positive" (the test is positive thought you're not pregnant). Just a bit of info :)
- You can take a home pregnancy test, but only if you're past the date when your period is due. If you take it sooner, the test will most likely show up negative even if you're pregnant. Since you're on the pill you probably know approximately when your period should be coming, so wait a few days after that if you want to take a test.

Date: 2004-12-15 02:57 am (UTC)I just googled and the only related thing I could find was this :
"However, HCG may also be elevated in abnormal circumstances in men as well as women. " (http://www.conceivingconcepts.com/learning/articles/hcg.html)
So according to this, I guess men could read as positive, but not always
Cool! :)
