i know that i should post this in [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina, but i have never felt welcome there. so i'm hoping it's ok to post this here...

a friend has given me a voucher to bust.com's webstore. i was browsing around i spotted this. does that sound healthy? anti-bacterial & anti-viral spray?

i'm not getting it cos it sounds ridiculous, i was only wondering.

Actually, it looks more like a marketing gimmick than something useful. The same thing can be accomplished by a warm wet washcloth.

If it's good for anything, I'd say it's probably a good product to clean your sex toys with. But directly on the girly bits? No way.

an anti viral spray, huh? sounds like bullshit to me!
and not something you want to be putting up there. . . I agree with the water!

There's no such thing as an anti-viral agent, if there was there would be no cold, flu, or AIDS.

The anti-bacterial part of it might mess with the balance of your cunt and give you a yeast infection.

I may be wrong, but I think you can's kill a virus *once it's in your system*. Like in your blood or cells. You can, however, kill a virus when it's still "outside". Virus are sneaky little things once they've invaded your body, but they're actually quite fragile when they're on their own.

Like, this page gives some examples of disinfectants used against HIV.
http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hpfb-dgpsa/tpd-dpt/hivquat_e.html

So, back to the subject of this thread : I guess it would be possible to kill virus in the vagina, before it actually enters the body through the mucous membranes.

Still, it owunds like a Very Bad Idea to put some random antimicrobial stuff in your vagina. There's some useful bacteria in there and we don't want to kill them :)

i don't feel welcome at vaginapagina either..there was this post not long ago about a girl who was talking about how stupid it was how bush is outlawing birth control teaching....he's only teaching abstinance in schools, which is really dumb.
so anyways...one of the things i said was that when i was in middle/high school and they taught me that the pull-out method just doesn't work...i had no idea! i didn't even know what the pull-out method was, so if i guy proposed we do it then i'd probably agree.
sooo in my rant i said something like how all these girls are going to end up pregnant because they're not being taught that pulling out just doesn't work and i got bombarded by people saying that the pull-out method is 81-96% effective...but i don't care who you are, its not that effective. i have heard from many respected doctors saying that there is a very concentrated amount of sperm in the pre-cum....therefore it would be easier to get pregnant.

sorry that this didn't have to do with your problem...but its nice to see that someone else doesn't feel welcome in that community even though they pretend to be so welcoming.

According to Wikipedia those numbers are correct:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Withdrawal_method
Even so... 81% is not effective enough for me.

i wouldn't judge vaginapagina on the results of just a few people -i'm one of the regulars there and so maybe i'm one of the people you're talking about, but i don't find people there insulting each other very often, and if i ever saw someone arguing that the pull-out method was effective, i'd be all over them - in fact i just wrote a bit of a rant about that on amipregnant, because we get questions on that all the time. anyway there are hundreds of women on vaginapagina, it's a very high traffic community and so even though there may be a few people who don't know what they're talking about, you'll find that in any community.

for example, someone a few posts ago said there is no such thing as an anti-viral agent. actually, there are many antiviral agents that are used to treat colds, flu, and AIDS. they're not as effective as antibiotics though and not used as often (except that everyone with HIV/AIDS is on anti-virals, because any help is better than nothing!) trust me though, there are anti-viral drugs. but they wouldn't help to have sprayed on your vagina, and they are prescription only as far as i know.

thanks for posting - i really think you should post this on vaginapagina because i thought it was really interesting and probably would be informative for lots of people.

its not everyone...but my biggest problem is if someone posts something that others deem stupid, everyone feels the need to tell them how stupid their post is, one by one. it wouldn't be that bad if the userinfo didn't make the community out to be safe and free of flamers.

http://www.tingles.org/lotions.htm claims that a product with the same name that looks similar is a combination of lavender and clary sage, which would bother me less than a chemical version, but it's still not something I would use.

yea...i was always told that anything with a perfume or dyes to it was bad news for your vagina. like those new pantiliners with scents...they just look like one big infection to me!

Why does it have to be scented? (not that I would use it anyway, ewwww) Why can't a vagina smell like a vagina?

my husband calls it a "hmm-hmm" sometimes. And I had a friend who taught her daughter that it was called a "princess". Her daughter got really confused when she heard other kids pretending to be princesses.
