I'm about to go on ortho 777. Does anyone else take this?

Dnd does anyone take lamictal (for bipolar or epilepsy) and BC? Do you know anyone that does? Do you still use condoms or no? What BCP do you use and what's your dose of lamictal?

I know what the common side effects of BC are, but what were yours when you first went on it?

I love anecdotes before I try something.

x-posted a little bit, sorry and thank you.

you might want to try posting in one of the bipolar communities about this, people are very friendly there. [livejournal.com profile] bipolarsurvival and [livejournal.com profile] 20plusbipolar are my personal favs.

first of all...what is ortho 777? i've never heard of it.
a few years ago i was taking paxil, which is an anti-anxiety/anti-depressant along with ortho tri-cyclen, and it didn't give me any side effects and my doctor never told me anything about any side effects when i asked.
BUUUUTTT.....scince you're taking different meds than i was, there might be something. so i would ask your doctor next time you're in if i were you.

but the only medication i know of that messes with your birth control is anti-biotics. a lot of women don't know it, but it lessens the accuracy of your birth control pill...so its less effective for the whole month that you took the anti-biotic in so you have to use a condom or backup contraception for that month. there's probably other medications that mess with your pill...but i don't know of them. better ask your doctor to make sure..and if there is a problem i'm sure they can work something out by putting you on different meds or something.

I have a friend with epilepsy who was on bc, and she always used condoms, but think that was more because she wasn't with a steady partner, and as we all know, bc does not protect you from STDs. But she took bc to help stabilize. I don't know what she was on though. As far as I know, the meds that effect the bc are anti-viral/bacterial. esp penicillan derivatives. If you are worried about bc and the meds that you are on, see if there is a web site for your specific med, talk to your doctor, or call the manufactuer. In the mean time, use condoms!

you should be able to look all your meds up on rxlist.com to find any interactions. i've never heard of any of those meds, so i can't offer any personal advice. sorry!

There ARE mood stabalizing drugs that can lower BC effectiveness and lamictal may be one of them. My friend had that issue for a while, unfortunately I cant remember exactly which of the meds she was on at the time was the culprit (to my knowledge it was either lamictal or depakote that was the problem but I couldnt honestly say what).

Call your pharmacy, they should have that information, also the bipolar communities above should be able to give you a hand as well.

I'm not on meds, but I'm bipolar and on Ortho-Tricyclen Lo.. It doesn't mess with my emotions at all and has been reliable since I started in July. ;D I know this isn't overly related to your question, but that's all I can offer, hehe.
