so, a question:

as has been mentioned, it's not that abnormal to get mild to moderate (or, for some unfortunate souls, severe) pain while ovulating. I've felt this for years. but: i'm on b/c pills for about a year now.

does anyone else who feels this take the pill? because i think it works by suppressing ovulation, among other things (i'm on orthotrycyclen)... but i feel the "ovulation" anyhow. maybe it's just that i cramp when my body thinks i *should* be ovulating...

There is actually some research to suggest that some women do have "phantom ovulatory pain". I will try and find the source and post it here for you to read.

Other possibilities:
You may, in fact, be ovulating. If you aren't especially diligent about taking your pills, you may be ovulating.

You may have ovarian corpus luteum cysts... these can form around the time of ovulation (and not have an ovum inside)... but they can be painful when they burst (amount of pain varies from person to person).

i am relatively diligent about pills: each evening between about 10 and midnight... so i should hope that's enough (i know some pills it has to be clockwork, but my doc said not orth-t-c)...

if you *can* find info that woudl be great, but the fact that i *haven't* yet means it's by no means imperative :)... but thank you, i had never heard of it

I got my ass off the trycyclene pills. I was all wacky on them and stuff. I know some women work better on them, but I know what you mean about feeling all wierd and having pains and stuff. Mine were never sever... but the mood difference was.

I am now on Orthocyclene and they are pretty cool and I am mellowed to a normal state of bitchiness.

*grin* if o-t-c was *giving* me the pains, yes, i'd switch them like anything. and i'm glad you did. but i got the pains long before i went on the pill, and *much* worse; they're one of the reasons i went on the pill (bad pain then, bad pain during my period...) and they've calmed down since to a "dull roar" state. glad orthocyclene works better for you though...

Well the reason for going on the pill for me was ovarian cysts, so I know about the pain. Also a 7 day heavy bleeder went down to a 5 day heavy bleeder. YIPEE.

The trycyclen follows your normal path of hormone flux. So me being on that increased or made the difference and I could feel the levels more. So switching to just the ortho cyclene which is just the same steady ammount all month long set me back on track. If that makes sense to you at all.
