hi, i'm new.

i know this has probably been discussed somewhere before, and, if this is the case, just point me there and i will delete this post.

can anyone recommend to me a good, quality, inexpensive, cruelty-free tampon? i don't want to use cups or reusable pads, i just want a normal tampon that doesn't come from a company that tests on animals. i know there are tons of them but i was hoping to get some recommendations before i go out there and spend money on something that won't work. [i am also looking for the ones you had bad experiences with.]

any help is greatly appreciated!

Natracare is an organic tampon, I'm not sure if organic essentials still do tampons (I think they do), sponge tampons (provided you don't mind the fact they are sponge) or of course homemade tampons.
Any reason why you don't want to use pads or cups?

Using cups does not mean no longer using tampons - although most women who use cups do so because they are consious of the risks using tampons - but if you are using a cup there would be no need to use a tampon.

to go along with what the other person said, you'd never need to borrow if you had a cup (unless you wanted to use a tampon). you can even put it in early if you're anticipating your period's arrival. I'm not trying to push it on you or anything just giving you facts.

oh, and if you use natural tampons you'd still have to borrow what is most likely goingto be an unnatural one from someone if you needed to and since using a cup doesn't mean you can't ever use tampons if you wanted to I really see no differece in the borrowing factor.

OMG ...O_O ... how are tampons tested on animals? *is shocked, concerned and confused* ... Do they actually insert it into dogs and cats or what?

Oh ok... i had this disturbing mental picture of people inserting tampons into the vaginas of poor little animals x.x

Individual components of the product or part of the manufacturing process (like bleaching chemicals) could be tested. For example, I know that there can be products like soap that say something along the lines of "this product was not tested on animals," but individual ingredients may have been.

Proctor and Gambel who own Tampax and Always are very well known for such horrific things as animal testing - at Huntington life sciences who not only practice bad animal testing but used to beat the crap out of the animals while they were doing it...P&G also having a very bad track record with their chemicals (dioxin in tampons - which was largely covered up being one example), harmful chemicals in their products then having the cheack to sell products for the pink ribbon camphaign - in other words making a little money and getting good press while at the same time doing things that increase breast cancer risk!

Oh and of course they are also the ones behind rely...they have a horrific track record when it comes to screwing up the health of women, children, men, and animals...also the environment.

where are you? cause i think Boots in the UK dont test on animals, niether do Sainsbury's - i've never had a problem with either brand.

I know someone already suggested Natracare, but I wanted to add that I think this is a great brand. I used them for a couple years, before I switched to a menstrual cup. I really recommend DivaCup, but it doesn't sound like you're into that sorta thing, so oh well.

If you can't find Natracare tampons, their website (Natracare (http://www.natracare.com/)) has a list of places you can buy from online. Vegan Essentials (http://www.veganessentials.com) doesn't have their tampons, but they do have Natracare pads and panty liners, as well as Organic Essentials tampons. However, Pangea (http://www.veganstore.com) does sell Natracare tampons: regular, super, and with applicator. I've ordered from both cruelty-free sites, and they're both cool. :)
