Hey, I'm new and I have a question.

I have been experiencing light bleeding inbetween my periods for a few months now. I always get my period for 7 days, and then about 2 weeks after I get my period, I get light bleeding for about 2 days. I'm 20 years old and have had my period for many years now. I've had bleeding inbetween my periods before, but it would usually only happen one month and then not again for another few months so I never really paid much attention to it.

I'm just scared now because like I said, for the past few months, it always bleeds inbetween my periods (very lightly) for about 2 days.

Is this normal? Could it perhaps just be me ovulating or something? Or is something wrong with me? Any answers are greatly appreciated.

*edit: I'm not taking any form of contraceptive and I'm not having sex

i've heard some people can get ovulation bleeding. are you on the pill? if you are on the pill it could be that the dose of hormones needs to be increased a little bit to stop the bleeding. anyway i wouldn't be too worried about it, periods do funny things a lot. if you have any pain or other symptoms, you could check in with your doctor.

I'm the same. Not on birth control, never have been. 9 years on the rag and for the last year, I've been spotting old blood mid-cycle. At first I took it as normal, then with repeated viewings it became a pain in the ass so I went to the doctor about it...she didn't seem overly concerned, just swabbed me to make sure it wasn't the result of any infections (which it wasn't) and then pretty much just shrugged her shoulders and 'meh, periods'-ed at me :)

I've spent a fair amount of time poking around the net looking for explanations; lots of folks seem to relate spotting like this to ovarian cysts or endo but I'm pretty sure that's not the case for me; I hardly get cramps at all, and when I do they're never debilitating; they've been a little early or a little late but I've never skipped a period in my life; yadda yadda yadda...basically none of the other symptoms of these conditions apply. I guess it's just one of those period things, although like you I'd love to know why it just started out of the blue.

At any rate I'm getting heartily bored of it, personally, so once I'm done with my real-bleed for this month I'm heading back up to the doctors to get some BC and hopefully sort it out. I'm not particularly concerned about it (hey, it's been a year and I haven't dropped dead or anything ;) but I'd like to know exactly what the deal is anyway.

Forgive the speech :) Short response - Wouldn't worry.

This sounds like ovulation spotting. Bleeding around ovulation is completely normal. It's also normal to have some amount of cramping (known as mittleshmertz) around the same time. And as per your comment above, every cycle is different. What happens one month isn't necessarily going to happen the next. For example, sometimes I have a small amount of mid-cycle spotting, sometimes mittleshmertz, sometimes both together, and sometimes neither. As long as your not bleeding massive amounts or having severe cramping, I'd say you're fine.
