fingers...
Jan. 12th, 2005 08:29 pmi was in the store today and i almost bought Insteads. i had them in my hand and i was ready to leave the store. but then i read the back of the box and how you use them. i took it to mean that i'd have to stick my fingers inside myself to get it out. i never liked doing that. i have this finger phobia. am i totally weird?

Date: 2005-01-12 06:53 pm (UTC)Here's the thing:
you actually hardly have to put your fingers into your vagina to retrieve them, anyway, since that is what you seem to feel odd about. The front rim of the cup will sit just up your vaginal canal from your pubic bone. If you bear down, you probably won't have to reach up for it at all.
That is my experience, anyway. But I don't really understand not wanting to put your fingers in your cunt, though. It is all part of knowing, understanding, and loving your body. I think that it is really fucking empowering, myself. I recommend taking that step toward becoming a cunt-lovin' woman.
Good luck.

Date: 2005-01-12 07:19 pm (UTC)i love insteads so much! there really isn't much "fishing out" that is done. you really only need one finger to get it out. by sticking one finger in about half way while sitting you'll touch the rim of the cup. if you can't touch it then, you can bear down like you are having a bowel movement it slides forward some.
you can order a trial pack here http://store.yahoo.com/yhst-9187590948465/insostkit.html
it's $2.99 to cover the cost of shipping... but it also comes with a $2 coupon... so if you do end up liking the cups you are basically getting $2 back from the price of the trial kit.

Date: 2005-01-12 07:27 pm (UTC)i'm such a big supporter of insteads. i've used them for a few months now and i haven't had a single leak! you can even wear them during sex on your period so it's not messy. my guy didn't even feel it at all.
i had to use a tampon last month as my period kind of suprised me, and i could really notice it. insteads are much more comfortable than tampons to me.
one thing also is don't be intimidated by their size. the first time i unwrapped one i was like "that's going where?!?!?" but it bends easily and slides right in.

Date: 2005-01-12 07:36 pm (UTC)june, if you love instead cups, I would suggest switching over to a diva cup or keeper, a non-disposable menstrual cup. Keep the instead cups around for having sex while on your period (if you or your partner prefers to be less "messy") but cut down on waste by using the other the rest of the time.
My diva cup is one of my favorite things in this world.

Date: 2005-01-12 07:48 pm (UTC)that is definately something i've been considering. i wanted to try out insteads for a few months to make sure that they work out well for me.
i will probably go ahead and order a diva cup this weekend when i sit down and sort out some finances.
i like how the diva cup is clear, unlike the keeper. do you find that it is just as comfortable as insteads?

Date: 2005-01-12 07:58 pm (UTC)1) the silicone is much more maleable than even the soft plast ring on the edge of the soft cups
2) it doesn't fit AROUND anything. It just sits there, chillin' out in your cunt, not a care in the world. I, at times, found that the instead cups were difficult to direct to the correct spot late in my cycle and then, due to the dropping of my cervix, my vaginal canal would be shorter and the instead cup would bump again my pubic bone a bit, especially before the cup got nice and warm and maleable from being in there for a while.
3) which brings me to my third point, the silicone warms pretty much immediately to body temp.
(a great little exchange that we're having tonight, eh??)

Date: 2005-01-12 08:07 pm (UTC)the directing of the cup worried me a little... it seems more difficult to place than the insteads. it does come with a guarantee so i guess if i just never get used to positioning it then i can return it so no major loss there really.
