[identity profile] ktshot1110.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] menstrualhut
Hey, i posted earlier about using monistat during the day (NOT A GOOD IDEA) so ended up having to buy a new one. My question is can I use it now even though I have my period and just use a pad insteed of a tampon(which seemed to soak up the monistat last time)? Id much rather use a tampon, but i guess whatever works better.

thanks again
katie

If you read the insert, it tells you not to use tampons. It also tells you that you can use it while menstruating. i suggest reading the entire insert before using it at all... don't go by the little pictures on the box.

go ahead and use it while you are menstruating. And you should make it a habit to stay away from tampons while you have a yeast infection anyway, whether you have fungicide in your vagina or not. Gotta let yourself breathe! to help combat the yeasties.
Good luck!

you can use it while menstrating, but no tampons. i agree...i'm in that boat right now and i hate using pads. i am all paranoid that i reek of period blood and it just feels grody..espeially scince i shoot out lots of blood clots that don't get soaked up with the pad and just sit there being all gelationous and gross.
and yea, using monistat during the day isn't smart. but even when you use it at night it'll still all come out..but don't be afraid, it'll still work. even if you're not on your period i'd wear a panti-liner to catch the gross stuff.
also i wouldn't have sex for a week just to be safe. i have heard something like 3 days after you use it (if you're using the one day treatment) but i always wait a week just to be safe.

Tampons will suck out a lot of the medicine that's supposed to be chillin up there. They'll also provide the infection with more fun places to grow and you don't want that. I'm assuming you got the Monistat 3 with the little buggers that you insert, so you'll notice that when you use the restroom in the morning after using one that it comes out like drips of candle wax. (It freaked me out when I first saw that, I thought I was dying) You kinda gotta figure that if THAT MUCH just comes out on its own, not a whole lot is staying anyhow. You don't need any cotton in there taking the rest of it away.

When I had my yeastie beastie I just gritted my teeth thru it for the couple heavy days of my period (I wasn't sure I had a YI anyhow, I'd never had one before) and got to work fixing it when I didn't really need tampons that badly anymore.

As someone above me stated, nix the sex for a while until you're sure that thing is GONE. Men can't get YI's but they can be carriers, so if you've got a boyfriend or a steady partner, you don't want to let him hold onto it for you & give it back once you're cured.
