Jan. 20th, 2005 01:57 pmi'm a new member. and dysmenorrhea victim :( yuuuck
anyway
cosmopolitan had some exercises that help ease bloating in their magazine this week and i've heard they actually work, i am going to go ahead and share!
i went ahead and took a picture of the page, but if any of you need to see the pictures closer then i can try to do that for you

they increase abdominal pressure, which reduces intestinal gas and bloating
repeat three times
1. wide second position
stand up tall with your legs slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, pointing your toes out to the sides. bend your knees slightly, and place your hands on your hips. lifting your heels off the floor, bend your knees until your legs are at a 90-degree angle. your knees should extend past your toes. squeeze your glutes as you hold this position for a two second count, return to the starting position.
2. figure four
lie on your back with your knees bent, feet flat on the floor, and your arms at your sides with your palms facing down. keeping your left foot planted firmly on the ground, place your right ankle on top of your left thigh. grab the back of your left thigh with both hands and gently draw it toward you as far as you can comfortably go. hold for a 30-second count. return to starting position and switch legs.
3. abdominal curl
sit on the floor with your knees bent. lean backward, resting your weight on your forearms. contract your abdominal muscles and use them to pull yourself forward until you can hold onto the sides of your thighs with both hands. be sure to keep your elbows high and wide and your shoulders back and down. hold here for 30 seconds, then return to the starting position.

i also have a question. in order to get rid of my cramps each month that come with bleeding my doctor has said i can stop taking my last row of pills and just miss my period for the month, but how on earth am i supposed to know if i get pregnant? i'm using all precautions, but in rare cases it still happens, has anyone done this before?!

Date: 2005-01-20 01:03 pm (UTC)As far as the pills go, there are a lot of girls who do what your doctor sugested. It is becoming common practice. Basically you will have cramps and a period every other month instead of every month. You won't have to worry about the getting pregnant because you still have the chemicals. (I am guessing that he didn't tell you to not take the pills for a week, but to skip the 'week' and move to the next pack)
If you want to try out things to help out with your cramps first without doing the skipping thing, I suggest working out like I said above, and also eating lots of potasium (vita K). Also stay away from pain killers. Some one told me that thier doc said IB profine can make cramps worse. It alliviats the problem for a little while, but at the same time compounds it by pushing back the inevitable until later, when you then have twice as much. I didn't believe it at first, but I tried it out and well, it worked. Once I feel a cramp coming on, instead of reaching for the pills I go for a walk and then streach it out in a back bend. That is on the first day and I don't get any after that. And with eating vita K, it is nothing compared to what they used to be and are completely managable.
