Long-time lurker. Now well informed, but still has question.

After getting quite narky at my period for being an entire bleeding week late AGAIN (no pun intended), I started going back over a year or so's worth of charts (I always note when my period starts, breakthrough bleeding, stuff like that). It seems that my period either begins at 27-29 days or 34-36 days, with no happy medium. It seems to switch every month or so-ish. Would this be based on which ovary the egg is released from?

Just curious, because if so, then I need to watch the sexual activity a little closer. No unwanted pregnancies, thanks.

I can't offer a professional opinion, but what you're saying makes sense to me. My mother used to suffer from severe dysmenorrhoea on virtually alternate months; she was told by the doctor that this was due to a problem with one of her ovaries and her dysmenorrhoea was based, again, on which ovary the egg was released from.

However, having said that, the best way by far to prevent unwanted pregnancies is actually using birth control. Sorry, but having seen firsthand the effects of overpopulation on Catholic countries, I find it very hard not to be skeptical about the rhythm method.

Actually, the rhythm method is certainly not the only method of natural contraception. Indeed, the rhythm method is very outdated. Natural family planning is far more indepth nowadays and can be 97% effective if practised properly.

interesting.. well, i'm no "doctah", but I think that it maybe means that one ovary ovulates at one time, 27-29 and the other is later, 34-36. This used to happen to someone in my family- she was five days late every other month.

I myself was on a six week cycle last time I checked, for many years. nefore that I was 'normal' but when I was in ninth grade I was on an 8 week cycle. my friend was too. How strange this all is.

I have the same thing! I have two different cycles: one is 22-25 days and the other is 27-29 days. I've been told it's probably because for some reason, my luteal phase (the time between ovulation and the first day of your period) is shorter on one side than the other. Apparently, that can mean I'm less fertile on the side with the shorter cycle. Not too worried, though, because I got pregnant the first time in only cycle of trying!
