Sep. 20th, 2001 09:32 pmso, I got my new birth control today -- I can't use the same birth control I had before the baby, apparently, because I'm breastfeeding and they don't want it to interfere... I'm using something called Micronor -- anybody else out there on this? how is it? I'm sort of scared to death of it... the doctor at the hospital told me that I had to take it AT THE SAME TIME every night or it wouldn't be fool-proof -- he also said that if I miss ONE pill, I'm at higher risk for getting pregnant than with most pills -- when I was on LO-OVRAL, missing a pill wasn't too big a crime if I doubled up/took it ASAP...
anyway, I can't start it until two Sundays from now....
let me know if you have any details, please...
also, any ideas on how to remind myself to take it at the same time each night?? I'm thinking of buying one of those sports watches with an alarm, or something...
this pill seems to be a lot pickier than my last...and I certainly don't need another baby around right now...

Date: 2001-09-20 07:59 pm (UTC)I've been on Micronor for two and a half years now and no baby in sight (thank heavens!). Yes, you need to take your pill at the same time every day (or within 3 hours of the same time). I usually get up at roughly the same time every day, so I stagger into the bathroom and have a pill, first thing. I've forgotten occasionally, and in that case I either don't have sex for 24 hours, or go for oral/manual sex or use protection for a day.
The only thing is that it's got no estrogen in it; but since you obviously haven't been on b/c for a while :) that won't be a shock to your system. But that's why I take it--I've got a family history of breast cancer and didn't want the risk associated with the pills that have estrogen in them.

Date: 2001-09-20 08:05 pm (UTC)Micronor was ok. Unfortunately it made my periods spotty, which is a possible side-effect, however I think birth-control just doesn't really like me because I seem to get alot of the side-effects no matter what I'm on :P
I always took my pill at 12:00pm because I figured I'd be awake then (i.e. I could still sleep in on the weekends and not worry about having to set my alarm to take my pill)
All in all I think Micronor is decent. The percentage rate of getting pregnant is slightly higher I think...but...it's still less than 1% so...

Date: 2001-09-21 08:24 am (UTC)Cause I take mine during Letterman's opening monologue. Silly, but it works M-F. I just have to remember the correct time for the weekend pills.

Date: 2001-10-04 11:22 am (UTC)after the birth of my second, i decided to get an IUD and love it. i have had it for 2 1/2 years now and the peace of mind is great, and the fact that i do not have any artificial hormones in my body is definately an added plus.
