definetly a wonderful community. im so thankful i found this community because i have a problem i need help with.- im 16 and have had my period since i was 10. i never really used tampons until this summer because i was uneasy with even looking at my vagina, but after i read cunt and had my first gyno visit i found a new respect for my wonderful lady part. i prefer tampons to pads bc they are just more comfortable and not as messy, but they make me so dry. sometimes i get so dry that i cant even put another tampon in and need to use a pad. has anyone else ever had this problem and what did you do? i know that there are other options but i dont know where i would get them and if they would be easy considering im in school 6 hours of the day 5 days a week. thank you for your help.
peace and love, danielle

You could try a cup (www.divacup.com or www.thekeeper.com, I would recommend the Diva). I'm sure your mother could buy one for you once you explained that tampons are in a way hurting you. They do absorb anything so they can't dry you out AND you can use a lube of some sort to help insert them (although if you are bleeding medium to heavy you have your own lube going on to help). Plus if you used a cup like the Diva you wouldn't have to buy tampons or pads anymore as it is reusable and you can boil it to sterilize it.

You can wear it up to 12 hours, but some women go even longer.

Even with tampons you shouldn't keep them in for 8 straight hours. So if you're looking for something that you can wear for many hours, then the cup is definitely (I think.. not totally sure) the only thing that you can do that with.

Tampons drying you out is one of the neggies of tampons. That is what they do (aka thier job) because they absorb liquids. All of them. If you are more confortable with tampons, but want something that will not dry you out, then you should seriously consider menstral cups. They are inserted like a tampon, but since they hold the liquid, not absorb it, they will not dry you out. Plus there is the bonus that you will not have to change one at school. They can be worn up to twelve hours, depending on flow, no problem. They are best bought online because of the lack of stores that carry them, but http://www.divacup.com does have a store locator. Unfortunately I was unable to find the actual store that they listed: my thought is that it was actually an at-home seller.
Hopefully your mom will be cool in helping you get one if you don't have a credit card (I love the American Check Card with the Visa logo, but outside of the states...grrr). They are about $30 but you won't have to buy any more menstral stuff (well maybe panty liners if you have a tipped cervix, but if you use tampons with no problem, unlikely) for about ten years. That is a lot of money saved! The cup is payed off in about three months...
Your drug store might have something called Instead, which are disposable menstral cups, but they are different then the other menstral cups. There are also sea sponges, but they absorb too.

I use OB Silk Ease tampons. They have a coating of some sort on the tampon that makes it much easier to insert even if you feel dry.

I'm in complete agreeance over the divacups. Totally worth the money. And I wish I had known sooner, because they are really easy to use.

You can try a "lighter" tampon. Like say if you are using regular aborbancy and it's drying you out you may want to try the light days ones. There is also "teen" tampons and such(I think Tampax makes them, but I'm sure others do also) which are more slender and most likely won't dry out out as much.

If I find I start getting dry when I'm using a tampon I just switch to a pad like you've done or have just tried a lighter tampon and was fine.

Isn't it such a pain when you have to go to school when you're having your period?? =\ Pads get waaay to uncomfortable and teachers are arses about letting you go to the bathroom you practically have to scream out that you're going to change your tampon. haha

Hope some of that helps..

Not like it matters.. but I'm also 16. ^_^
