hello all. im going to start yasmin birth control soon. you're supposed to start it on the first day of your period so thats what im waiting for. (not sure if its the same for all) but my question is: how long should i be on it until i can have sex. im definetly still going to use a condom. but how long does it take for the pills to kick in?

You should check the insert that comes with your pill packet. In fact, I suggest you at least skim the entire thing so you are aware of the medication's effects :-)

Agreed there, and maybe look up some informaiton on the pill too - Yasmin can cause IBS, I don't think that is actually listed as a side effect...I went months not knowing it was my birth control causing the problem.

Really?!? Wow. I've been on Yasmin for about 2 years, thank god I was spared that side effect. Sorry :/. Did it go away after stopping the pills?

Yes, as soon as I switched to FAM it went away - thank god - it was a total fluke that I found out it was the pill, I thought there was something else wrong with me.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. There's no need to wait to have sex.

With most birth control, if you start your pills the first day of your period, you're protected right away. If you're a "Sunday starter," then you need to use backup protection for the first seven days. But you can have sex whenever.

I'm on Yasmin and you can start having sex right away and be protected.

with Yasmin, as with all combined oral contraceptives, you will be protected immediately if you take the pill within the first 24 hours of your period, or after seven days of correctly taking the pills if you begin at any other time.
