Seasonale Weirdness -- or WTF?
Apr. 8th, 2005 10:18 pmI'm taking Seasonale, and I thought that I wouldn't get my fake period until I started taking the placebo pills, but I've been having a period now for two weeks. I'm a week away from when I start taking the placebo. I was just wondering if anyone else had periods that lasted this long or is taking Seasonale and experiencing this kind of problem. Should I go to the doctor or is this normal? Thanks for any help. Also, the first week of my fake period the blood was very brown and thick.
Oh, and hi, I just joined. :)

Date: 2005-04-09 05:51 am (UTC)Skipping periods has been prescribed as a treatment for medical conditions like endometriosis, or dysmenorrhea and other conditions for many years. The difference between Seasonale and other pills is in the packaging-Seaosnale is packaged specifically for the three month use, rather than a single month at a time. It's the same combination and doseage of hormones in Levlen, Nordette and Levora, repackaged.
The OP is probably having an unusual period because her body hasn't gotten used to the length of time between periods yet, and the breakthrough bleeding usually will taper off some time during the first year of using Seasonale. People on Seasonale (or who skip periods for long periods of time) tend to experience more breakthrough bleeding as the body gets used to the length of time between cycles.
OP: It's normal and nothing to be overly concerned about. Continue taking your pills as you have been.
