[identity profile] 4o5pastmidnight.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] menstrualhut
Hi.. err.. well, this is kinda akward, but I'll just say it, because, hell, this is a community about menstruation and related things.
Well, my situation actually involves more of a lack thereof..
I'm only fifteen. I'm a virgin. There's no way I could be pregnant (unless I'm the next Virgin Mary).
I'm normally on about a 33 day cycle, or at least I start about 33 days after the day I started my last period, if that makes any sense to anyone.
But the deal is, it's been about fifty days since I last had a period. I'm pretty sure my last one started February 18thish. I didn't have one for all of March, and that's when I started to worry. I haven't really had any cramps or anything, either.
I visited my endocrinologist yesterday for something unrelated, and I asked about it, and she said it wasn't too abnormal to miss your period for a month. But I'm not so convinced.
I'm also insulin intollerant, which she said might have something to do with it. In addition to this, I've been under a bunch of stress recently (band competitions, "Hell Week" in school [about half my week was full of half nighters for projects and most of the weekend was, too], etc.), which I've heard can contribute. And to top it off, I haven't been eating as much as I should, probably (not anorexic--I just have been so busy that I don't have the time, and I try to sleep in as late as possible and often don't have the time in the mornings, and lunch sucks..), and that could have something to do with it?
I've talked to my mom, but I've found it's not as much help as I wished for. So I turned to this community.
Any and all help would be so very greatly appreciated. Anyone who has any advice or answers.. I'll love you forever. I'm sorry if this question gets asked all the time, too. :\ Just kinda freaking out over here..
Thanks again so much.

I think you pretty much pointed out the problem when you said

'And to top it off, I haven't been eating as much as I should, probably (not anorexic--I just have been so busy that I don't have the time, and I try to sleep in as late as possible and often don't have the time in the mornings, and lunch sucks..), and that could have something to do with it?'

You need to eat, hon. I mean it. Not eating is probably a major factor here. One of the signs of anorexia nervosa is not having a period. I'm not saying you are, but significant weight loss can mess with your hormones. Good luck!

I would not worry too much about it, when you are younger, it's incredibly common for your period to go MIA for months at a time. It happened to me a bunch, especially my sophomore and junior years, when I was really stressed out and depressed.

Stress can definitely cause your hormones to fluctuate, and if you are busy enough to not have time to eat, I would say both are culprits. Just take care of yourself, and do not worry too much over it.

Eventually it will regulate itself out. Mine did so when I started paying close attention to my body and its cycle.

You say that you had a visit with your endocrinologist? Is it safe to assume that you have a thyroid condition then? (please correct me if I'm wrong). I have hypothyroidism, and before I went on the pill my periods were incredibly irregular. My periods were anywhere from 30-60 days, and usually quite heavy. This is quite normal for someone with this particular condition.

You are also young and your body is still going through changes, and stress can causes a delay as well.

Hmm, well definitly get that checked out. When they gave me a blood test because I lost my period, they tested for thyroid problems I believe.

Good luck and keep us posted, I would be interested in the outcome.

When I was in basic training, some of the girls I lived with had no period druing the 9 weeks, and some had it the whole time. Stress does that. Just make sure you eat. Im hypoglaucemic, so I get kinda freaky if I dont eat.

Oh yeah. Stress can do it, stress + change in eating habits can do it, or you can just skip for no reason at all. I remember I just skipped a period once in my late teens, no reason, no idea why. It just sort of... never came! Then, last year, the same thing happened to my girlfriend (who was 21 at the time, so it can happen even when you're not in your teens anymore); just one month her period never showed up, and the next month there it was. Go figure.

I know that saying "relax!" doesn't make it any easier for you to actually relax. But if you *can* find a way to eat a little more regularly (granola bars or apples or whatever that can be carried with you and grabbed on your way out the door are great) that wouldn't be a bad thing, of course!
