Apr. 9th, 2005 03:04 amHi; new here and all that.
I have a question... and I checked the memories but couldn't find anything relating to what I intended to ask, so I guess I'll just go ahead here. Some background first: from fourteen I had terrible, terrible cramps nearly every day as well as irregular periods (sometimes coming twice a month, sometimes skipping three months between). No cause could really be found for these issues considering my period was most irregular during stress-free times and my cramping occured regardless of when I had my period. My mother has endometriosis, so after nearly two years of begging my gynocologist, I was finally tested and thankfully had that ruled out. She reluctantly put me on Estrostep FE, and so now I'm enjoying weeks of zero cramps and four day spotting. I am a happy clam, although I was very angry at my doctors for a while, considering they chose to ignore both my family history and symptoms of endometriosis in favor of claiming that my cycle would eventually "straighten itself out," (I'm nearly nineteen now and have had my period since age twelve- fat chance that it would get any, well, straighter) or that my periods "were just like that." :( I'm looking forward to getting another gyno when I move.
As I said, my cramps are GONE, and my period has become so light that I hardly need a tampon or pad anymore, so I should be in love with the pills... but they have come with a nasty side effect. From about the second week to the fifth (I am starting my sixth week on them now), I woke up every single morning nauseated. I know this nausea is from the pills because I am not pregnant, and I have never had issues with feeling nauseated before. Long story short, I missed about three weeks of class because I just could not get out of bed before the nausea subsided.
My question is this- has anyone else ever become nauseated frequently due to their pills, either with Estrostep or another brand? I know this is a common side effect, but I don't hear about this happening quite as much as other effects. Also, if this has happened, did the nausea fade over time, or was it long-lasting? I'd really like to continue to take these pills, considering the drastic change they have made, but I can't keep rolling out of bed and wanting to vomit every morning. My gyno said that after about two months many of the side effects will fade, but I'm not sure about her opinion at this point. :) I was thinking that I was improving, but again this morning I had that familiar feeling of nausea...
Any responses are appreciated. And just to add- I'm largely stress-free, am not pregnant (nor could I be), have been taking the pills consistantly for five weeks now, and am considered a normal weight for my height and frame. The nausea was the biggest side effect I noticed, but I've also been a little fatigued. I'm just curious to see if there's anything anyone has done to eliminate this nausea, because it's really interfering with my daily activities. It sucks, but hopefully it'll go away... soon...
Thanks, everybody! :)
Edit I should add this- could the nausea be due to the fact that I am taking the pills in the evening, around 11:30 pm every night? That may have an effect on the time I feel queasy, I guess, but if I'm going to feel nauseated, it's going to bother me no matter WHEN it happens... :(

My experience...
Date: 2005-04-09 12:21 pm (UTC)You could try on a night when you're not going anywhere, taking it just after supper or a few hours before bed and see if you can sleep through it....depends on how bad it is.
When I tried the pill, I would take it at night before bed, and I would wake up in the middle of the night for the whole second week of my cycle with dry heaves. The rest of the month, I would just be nauseated. I tried another pill, Alesse, and was fine the first three weeks, but this time, I would wake up in the middle of the night with dry heaves during the third week. So I gave up with the pill hahaha.
But, you're having such a difference in the other areas, I could see why it would be hard to quit taking it! I've not heard of that brand, so maybe someone who takes it might post and be of more help.
