Speculums

I know this is going to sound crazy... but I work for a clinic, and we have an insane overstock of disposable plastic speculums (sterile). My boss wanted to just throw them out, but I couldn't imagine letting him just toss them in the garbage, for any number of reasons. I am hoping to find a women's clinic or non-profit women's health organization to which I could dontate them. I have maybe three hundred (in small, medium, and large). I'd even be willing to donate them to a worthy artist who might be able to use them in some "creative" way.

I live in Chicago. If anyone has any suggestions on what I could do with these, please let me know.
Thank you.

Perhaps a Planned Parenthood will take them? I know most of the clinics in the city get government funds and work on donations so they are hurting for cash.

I've been hoping someone would create single use speculums for ages. But not plastic, that's just wasteful. But cheap metal ones would be great so they could be melted down again. I'm sick to death of cleaning a load of Cuscos! We have other single use metal instruments, can't see why they can't do the same with speculums.

Anyway, back to your comment- i have no ideas apart from donating them to another clinic. But i'm glad you salvaged them!

hi... i work with a project in africa which is doing women's health this summer, and one of the participants is coming from chicago - she could carry some of the specula over. it would be really helpful, these clinics are for women in villages in uganda who have had STDs for years, or even their whole lives, that could be easily cured by antibiotics.

if you're interested, email me at ugandaproject at yahoo
