[identity profile] faceless-facade.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] menstrualhut
I was recommended to come here when I posted something in my other community [livejournal.com profile] abusedgrls. [livejournal.com profile] uozlulu suggested I come here with my problem. I join this community so that I could get help with this probelm. I would really appreciate it adn I'm sorry if I do anything wrong...

I've got a problem, two actually. It really grosses me out to even be talking about this and I'm too embarrassed to talk to anyone about it so I figured I'd come here to see what y'all think...

Problem numero uno: When I go pee, it's like there is steam coming from my vagina. It's not completely noticeable but I did notice it. This is something I recently noticed but it could've been going on for awhile. I don't know. I'm in no pain or anything but I just don't think it's normal.

Problem numero dos: Sometimes, on my mons (where my pubic hair grows), I get this red (sometimes purplish) bump about the size of the tip of a pinky. They're usually filled with blood/pus and only hurt when touched. I usually only get one or sometimes two but in completely different areas... I've tried to notice when I get them but I haven't figured it out. It's been maybe a year or more and I just randomly get them...

I'm worried and scared. I just want to know what's going on with my body. I'd really appreciate any adive or help you can give me.

personally, i'd gather up my courage and talk to a doctor. i know it's embarassing, but i'd rather be mortified for 10 min and know everything's ok, then not go and constantly be stressing :)

if i remember correctly, if you're over 16 then you dont need a parent with you. and the doctor wont tell your mum anything (patient confidentiality etc), esp if you ask them not to.

totally no need to be grossed out or embarrassed!

the urethra is very near the vagina, so it can seem like urine is coming from your vagina.

the bump sounds like an ingrown hair - do you shave your vulva? even without shaving, ingrowns can happen. it could also be a pimple, becuase the vulval area tends to be very warm and sweaty.

the [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina community has an extensive archive, you may be interested in browsing through it.

I get those once in a while. Normally if I get those little bumps and they're closer to my inner thigh where the skin is really sensitive, they're smaller, but if I get them closer to the area belly-button where the skin is tougher from years of shaving they're deeper and bigger. When they're higher up like that sometimes they take MONTHS before the hair finally reaches the surface and lets me shave it/pick it out. Totally normal.

i'm sure your doctor has dealt with worse things. there's nothing to be embarrassed about. you've got the same apparatus as more than half the planet, and there is no shame in taking care of your reproductive health.

would there be any way you could call and book an appointment and go without having to tell your mother? if not, maybe make up some fake reason to need to go to the doctor & then don't let her come in the room with you.

it's really a great relief to have a good relationship with your doctor. like i said, they've seen crazier things, and deal with stuff like this pretty often. think of the relief you'd have knowing what exactly is going on with your body & it'll be worth a little awkwardness :)

good luck, hon.

Steam from your vagina is very normal, it is 98.6 degrees down there, the urine is that temp too, so if it's cold in the room or you're real observent you'll see a little steam. Nothing to worry about.

For problem number two, you might want to see a doctor. It sounds like a zit to me, but you want to be sure.

on the first one, i agree with [livejournal.com profile] stratyllis. i was camping a few months ago, and when i was going to the bathroom in the outhouse, it steamed. i was freaked out, and i remembered chem class. :)

I had an ingrown hair that turned into an abcess that had to be removed.
A pore in my vaginal area, and it started out as what you described, and then it just kept on growing, to the point where I could barely walk b/c it started on the lower area of my right lip, and then slightly began to hit the area where lip kinda meets inner thigh. I had to go the emergency room, and then cut me open with a scalpel and removed the abcess. I got it from shaving, my pore became infected + the ingrown hair resulted in that.
Just tell your doc. about it. I had to have a male gyno. open me up, AND I had my period during this procedure. I am BEYOND cautious when I shave, and change my razor blade much more frequently!
be safe!

About the steam: ditto to what the others said about it being possible due to body temperature. Also, if you *feel* like there's air being expelled from your vagina, that can be due to the vagina gradually expanding (often happens during sexual arousal, but I've had it happen without that at all) and then collapsing as you shift positions to urinate. It can happen during sex and make a "fart" noise. Just lovely :-P

About the bump: yes, you can get pimples/ingrown hairs/cysts down there that can be perfetly benign (although irritating and painful). If you only get an occasional, rare one, I would treat it with hot compresses (to help it come to a head on its own) and just let it go away, making sure to rinse the area well with water to keep it clean. However, if they're an enduring problem, you should see a doctor--you can have problems like this that exist even without any sexual activity, so there's nothing "wrong" with either asking the doctor about it in front of your mom or telling your mom that you have something private to ask the doctor. (On the other hand, that doesn't necessarily make it less embarrassing/difficult....)

However, if you *have* been sexually active and there's a chance it could be an STD, you need to get it checked out. Depending on where you are, you might be able to talk to a Planned Parenthood clinic (they have reduced fees or will see you for free and are confidential) or a city or county health clinic; look in the Yellow Pages or online. Just in case--can't hurt to be safe, etc!

Good luck, either way...
