I read this post Here, I thought I was one of the few people who has whacky cycles. My question is, i'm 21 and my periods have never ever been normal. I can go up to a year without getting one. I get cramps, just not blood. I talked to the dr, and she said a lot of things can cause that (weight, body type, genetics, medication, stress ect) but I have it now, and I'm on day 9 it's annoying. Am i just doomed to have a strange cycle, or when it's over should I talk to my dr?

Hate to sound naive, but i'm not very girlie i'm more like a guy when it comes to this stuff. The less I have to deal with it, the better.

Hiya! Have you visited an ob/gyn and not just your regular (primary care physician-type) doctor? If not, it's worth going. The ob/gyn might see something or be able to tell you something that your regular doctor missed.

Best,
~Caithlin :-)

Well, shoot. I'm out of ideas. :-/ Menstrual cycles are so weird--it's good that your ob/gyn said things are normal, but I agree that weird cycles are a total pain in the ass. Hopefully someone else will have more insight than I do! :-)

Best,
~Caithlin

hi there.

I had exact same thing! For me, they found out i had a cyst on one of my ovaries. I do not think this is something Dr.s usually check for. The only reason i was checked was because i had a special blood test done and it found an imbalance so they checked everything.

Besides having the cyst they wanted me to have regular prds. They were gonna do surgery to remove the cyst and put me on birth control before they did it. Amazingly, the B.C. made the cyst disappear and no surgery was needed!

I hope this helps and maybe a blood test could help see if there are any hormone problems.
Good luck!
caitlyn

hey its so coincidental you would say that! These girls on the _survivors_ board were talking about how they think they may be bipoalr. Maybe you could help them figure it out?

Also the FDA is a little weird about meds lately. Some say it has a lot to do with money and such. Its a bit scary really...i mean ifits dangerous of course pull it..but if they have money as a motive then its simply ridiculous.

Anywho, thanks for sharing your period story...made me feel little more normal :-)

Going a year between periods and not knowing why is a sign something is amiss. Please see your gyn and demand they figure out what.

When I was younger (14-17 approx) I would go 6 months without a period, then I'd bleed for 12 days straight, and so on. However, weather or not you're on birth control, this should naturally begin to level out around the ages of 19/20. If you've seen a ob/gyn and they gave you the brush off about it, I'd reccomend getting a second opinion.

For your doctor to just say "it's cool, forget about it" without trying ANY medication or running ANY tests seems a little neglectful. Missing periods isn't unhealthy, but it's not normal, and could be an indicator that something isn't as it should be.
