ZITTY

Ok, so I'm PMS'ing and due to start my period next week approx. And I'm breaking out. It seems like every month I take my clear skin for granted, and forget quickly about the zittiness during my premenstrual "party".

Has anyone been recommended any good acne remedies that I should know about other than the usual salicylic acid based cleansers/etc? I find benzoyl peroxide doesn't do that much for me.

Any vitamin/herbal supplements that help minimize breakouts?

Thanks!

Vitamin A supplements can be helpful, but be sure you're taking the proper dosage for your weight.

Or you could drink a glass of carrot juice every morning. Haven't actually done this myself, but I've heard it's effective.

evening primrose oil is an excellent herb extract used to clear up the skin.

Taken orally. It will help with PMS and period pains too.

orally is all I've heard.

a friend of mine did use tea tree oil on her face and she had great skin, but I don't know enough about it to point you in that direction.

Tea tree oil can be applied directly on the skin in small quantities. It should be applied only to the blemishes themselves, not the whole face, unless it is diluted. If you are using the OCM, you could mix a drop or two of tea tree oil into your oil mix when you cleanse.

Tea tree oil applied topically can be too intense unless you've got tough skin.

i was thinking of making a post about this too! i've gotten everyday acne under control, and i like never get spots except on my period, i usually get one or two maybe. soo annoying.

i saw an ad in seventeen for some scrub you use for a week out of every month before you get your period. i forgot what it's called but we should look into it..

oil cleansing method, for menstrual times, and every time. [livejournal.com profile] natural_skin talks all about it.

crap, that's because i'm a dolt and put an extra _ in it. [livejournal.com profile] naturalskin discusses OCM extensively.

I've had the best luck with Burt's Bees products (http://www.burtsbees.com), in particular the orange essence facial cleanser and the blemish stick. I find that using those two in conjunction with each other I get far fewer breakouts, and the ones I do have vanish much more quickly.

Burt's has other facial products than the two I mentioned, but those are my favorites, since I have sensitive skin.

Make sure you're getting enough zinc, too. That is supposed to help...

I use the tea tree face wash from the Body Shop all the time. It has really helped to clear up my skin and when I get acne around my period, it usually doesn't last as long.
