Trivora and skipped placebo
Jun. 27th, 2005 09:46 pmI'm on Trivora, currently 4 pills into my 28-day pack. I'm going to visit my boyfriend for about a week, during which time I'm supposed to get my period. I'd really like to skip it, but I've never done this before---what would be the best way to do this in order to prevent breakthrough bleeding? Occasionally, only a couple times, I've started my period the evening after taking my last active pill, and if this could be prevented in any way I'd be quite happy. I heard from a friend I could take a pack backwards, but she didn't understand why, had just heard it from someone, and I'm reluctant to follow her advice without any confirmation...your thoughts? It's safe pregancy-wise to just skip the placebo week, right?
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

Date: 2005-06-28 05:06 am (UTC)The issue is that with a triphasic pill, each week the level of hormones increases, and if you were to start the new pack at its beginning, you'd drop back down to the level of the first week. This can cause breakthrough bleeding. Instead, start you're next pack with week three (123321 instead of 123123) so that you're don't experience such a jump in hormone levels. (You still might experience some bleeding, but this is the way to go about trying to avoid it.)
