Background: When I get my period I get HORRIBLE HORRIBLE CRAMPS, they're so bad I feel like my ovaries are exploding. (I have had my insides checked out by my doctor, no tumors, nothing unusual) I went on OTC Lo about 3 1/2 months ago to help with the cramps and the heavy flow, and it didnt help except ease the flow quite a bit. Another thing, I also have a very small vaginal opening, I can barely put tampons in and even the slim ones hurt alot.

Now, lately I've been noticing that whenever I bleed and blood comes out, it burns the inside of my vagina. I don't have any symptoms of any infection or anything like that.. and I am a virgin, and I have never had anyone touch me before, so I don't think I could possibly have a tear or cut inside of me that it would be hurting. Could this be due to my vaginal opening being small?

What could this be? :( I'm really concerned it could be something bad..

I have the same problem...I got it from my mom. Did/does your mom get the same way?

i'm not really sure what could be wrong exactly, but have you discussed this exact problem with your doctor? :( if he/she isn't finding anything, you might want to get a 2nd opinion. i have endometriosis (was diagnosed over 6 years ago) and it took me 4 different doctors to get a proper diagnosis (via surgery, none of the previous 3 took my problems serious). good luck! <3

my mom's doctor, when they gave her a historectamy, said that she had that, and that's why her cramps and bleeding were so horrible...I'm just hoping that I don't have it. :(

Don't be afraid! I too have endometriosis, and it would explain the super-awful cramps. Diagnosing it is fairly simple: if the symptoms check out (and I bet yours do), you'd have a diagnostic laparoscopy, which is a fairly minor surgical procedure to look inside and see if the uterine lining is growing in places other that the uterus. (That's what endometriosis is.) If you do have it, the doctor will remove the endo, and probably put you on some form of birth control afterwards to keep the endometriosis from returning.

Before I had the diagnostic surgery, the cramps were so bad I'd be incapacitated for about three days. Now, I don't even need ibuprofen when I get my period.

Don't be afraid to talk to an ob/gyn about this. Treatment is simple, and it'll mean that you go through far less pain. :-)

bad thing is, is that I'm already on birth control...so I'm confused. They even put me on a higher dose of estragen because I was getting panic attacks before and after my periods. The nurse I go to for my yearly said that if my periods keep up like this, that's she's gonna refer me to get looked at...and I'm only 19! :(

I was on birth control, too, but by that point the endo had spread enough that I was going to be in pain no matter what until the endo was removed. Now, I'm on BC again, but (1) the endometriosis has been removed and (2) I take it in such a way that I only get my periods a few times a year, or not at all. (My ob/gyn told me that the more periods I got, the greater the chance that the endometriosis would return, which is why the number of periods I get has been reduced.)

Don't be scared to get "looked at" by an ob/gyn or doctor: doing so will only *increase* the chances of figuring out what the problem might be and fixing it. I promise. :-)

And, if it makes a difference, I probably had endometriosis by the time I was 16. (That's when the cramps started getting brutal enough to keep me home from school.)

but, won't not having periods that often lessen my chance of getting pregnant? I know that sounds like a stupid question, but that's what i've heard. Cuz I am totally looking forward to being a mommy one day.

Me too. :-) To the best of my knowledge, it won't affect your ability to get pregnant later on (obviously, getting pregnant while still on the birth control would be hard :-). If you're worried, though, by all means check with your ob/gyn for the official word, but I take my birth control feeling confident that it won't affect my ability to get pregnant when I want to be a mother later on in life.

If my endometriosis was allowed to continue unchecked, though, THAT could affect my ability to get pregnant later on. Endometriosis wouldn't kill me, but it would leave me in a lot of pain and make it harder for me to get pregnant later on.

Also, depending on your case, your doctor might not recommend taking birth control the way I do, so don't fret yet. :-)

No problem! I'm glad to help. If there's anything else I can help with, just leave me a comment (here or in my journal). :-)

Take care!!

I too vote for a second opinion.

It could be some form of vulvodynia, like vulvar vestibulitis; that's definitely something you might want to look into (it often gets worse during periods because the lesser amount of estrogen means that the nerve endings are closer to the surface). Otherwise, you could have some sort of infection. I would go see another doctor and see what they tell you.

Good luck!
