I'm getting my period right now, and I had forgotten what a sense of peace I get when I actually, forgive the pun, "go with the flow". If I push my body - don't eat when I want to eat, clean when I want to be taking a nap, etc. - I get cranky and unpleasant. I just sat around, ate Ben and Jerry's, and rented every movie I felt like seeing. And the cramps actually stopped.
Anyone else find this or am I just in a good mood cause I was happily irresponsible today?

Date: 2005-07-18 07:07 am (UTC)Normally, I find that just lying in bed helps, and that doing what the gym teachers say ("Running is good for your period and will help your cramps!!") actually doesn't work. Gee, who woulda thought that listening to your body works? @_@
I should probably try to be as relaxed as possible.. and get some Ben & Jerry's this month.
Thank you for an idea to rid me of evil cramps. :D

Date: 2005-07-18 06:21 pm (UTC)But as for exercise relating to cramps, the way it was explained to me is that muscles are like taffy. When they're being used they get warm and kinda "loose" or gummy or whatever but when they're cold and not being used they become hard and more easy to break/strain. If you are working out a bit and your muscles are in that warm loose state, they won't want to tense up (which is what cramping is all about). When they're used more they tend to chillax a bit and wont be bothered with real severe cramps.
You're better off making it a daily routine in general & to curb cramping (i.e. yoga in the morning; walking after dinner; etc) than "oh here come the cramps, better hit the gym" which is really the only time I think about doing some situps or whatever because my mind is so focused on how puffy I feel. :-P
