so, i've been on this birth control for about a month now [sprintec]. things were going fine in the beginning. after taking three a day to stop my heavy bleeding i went to one a day and i was told not to expect a period until i went on the placebo pills at the end of the cycle. that would have been great except that i began bleeding heavily the second week of the pills [after i switched]. after another week of that i called the doctor and she said that it will take a while [3-4 cycles, she said] for my body to get used to the new hormones and all and that this was normal. alrighty then.

did anyone else have a hard time getting your body used to the pills? and, if so, how long did that last?

a week later, i'm still bleeding. tuesday will make it two weeks straight. and tomorrow will begin the placebo pills. then i have an appointment on the second. i've also been having some bad cramps which, i rarely ever get those. things are crazy.

hope everyone is doing well. take care.

I was on Sprintec and my body was regulated and I had periods when it was time for the sugar pills. When I first started on the pill (my first brand was tri-cyclen) my body was really pissed off at me.. but after about 2 cycles your body should adjust. I'm not sure why you're bleeding so much.. but if it continues and things aren't going well then yeah make an appointment. Some pills aren't the greatest for everybody.

I started the pill because my periods were irregular. After three months, my cycle literally became perfect and is to this day. HOWEVER, a friend of mine who's cycle kicked ass already went on the pill when she started having sex. Suddenly, she had cramps, heavy bleeding, spotting etc. Some of my friends loved the pill but it took them three tries to find the right one, one that their body was cool with.

Tell your doctor to think real hard and fix it. No one should have to bleed for two weeks. ::shudders:: You are awesome.

I was trying to solve some problems when I went on the patch and lemme tell you, I spotted for 3 weeks, got my period, then spotted for another week and a half AT LEAST. It wasn't necessarily messy, but it was definitely a bummer. I stayed on that for a number of months then switched to a pill when I started getting nasty mood swings. I adjusted to that in really no time at all.

The bleeding wasn't bad (barely enough to need a panty liner of some sort but just enough to bother me) and eventually I loved the little patchies. Too bad they started making me mean.

Anyhow, you'll find what's right for you. It all just takes a little patience.

I'm in the exact same boat. I'm 18, from Ottawa, Canada. I got my period when I was 15, and it had been really regular. Then suddenly, this March, I started a really heavy period. I kinda shrugged it off because I don't live at home during the school year, and figured it would just stop eventually. After bleeding for four and a half months (NONSTOP!), I went to my GP, and she put me on the pill. I started out 3 a day for a week, then two a day, and then she told me to go to one a day. When I downgraded to one a day, it came back. They don't know what's wrong with me. I had to get an ultrasound last week, and am going to the doctor's tomorrow to discuss the results. I've been told it could be anything from cysts, to endometriosis to ovarian cancer, and am kinda freaking out. There is pain involved, but it isn't THAT severe, the really irritating thing is the fact that it's summer, and a constant period, despite being on the pill is a drag. I'm a very competitive athlete, and I haven't felt up to any sort of physical activity in months. I know it isn't sex-related, as I'm still a virgin. That's also why I'm kinda hesitant about getting an internal exam or lacroscopy (SP?)... as I'm still pretty "intact" :). Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone here. If you find out anything new, please post here, as any knowledge is good knowledge. Good luck xox.
