Just a question... I have had some vaginal itching recently that hasn't gone away. I made an appointment with the doctor for tomorrow, but I got my period today. I know that you shouldn't have the pap done on your period, but would it be okay to go for this while on my period? I really want to get this taken care of as soon as possible but if it will be a waste of time I'll cancel the appointment. Thanks.

I suggest you call the doctor's office and ask them directly.

I went to the doctor last year around this time for a cyst, and they decided that since I was up on the table, they'd do a pap on me. I said that I was on my period, and it wasn't such a great idea. The doctor insisted that since it was my first day, it shouldn't be too bad. Turned out to really be that bad, and I had to go through the whole thing again (the pap on my period was VERY painful to me for some reason), and I felt like I should have put my foot down a bit more since I know how much I bleed in my first few days. I second NLF about calling your doctor's office, but just because of my experience, I think you should cancel. However, my body is probably totally different than yours, but I did find out afterwards that the breast exams and pelvic exams are also compromised by your period (you tend to be a bit lumpier in your breasts and ovaries), so that's another point in favor of cancelling.

are you sure it's vaginal and not a UTI?
they checked me for a UTI in the middle of my period.
