I've been lurking here a bit, I thought I would pop in for a hello. And a rant, naturally!
I've been off birth control for 2 years now. Nice to have my own hormones back! Problem is, im on a nearly 38 day cycle. my periods are still not extreemly heavy like they were before i went on bc 8 years ago. but my cramps are HORRID now.
Should any of those concern me? im pretty sure im not ovulating, which is ok since i dont want babies now (or ever) but i don't want long term. i hate talking to my doctor about it because she says "birth control!" the second i mention periods and such. i've had bad juju with bc since i was 11 and got put on it. i swore to never use it again.
i know that up to a year ago i was ovulating, because i got pregnant then. my worry mostly is that the cramps could be a bad sign from after effects from terminating it. dr 6 mo later said i was ok, but now im not so sure.
anybody have any idea?

I am not in this community, but I was wondering if you guys could try to help me out. I started on the Depo Provera shot around August 15th or so, and was told that my periods could be lighter or heavier, longer or shorter, etc, as a result of the shot. I was also told that there may be spotting between my periods, and that my periods could totally stop after perhaps a year. As a result, I was expecting my period in Sept., but instead got spotting (lasting for about 7 days) starting maybe a few days before i was expecting my period to begin. Once the spotting stopped, I expected my period to come, but it didn't. I called Planned Parenthood, where I had been given the shot, and asked if it was normal to miss a period the first month and to INSTEAD have spotting, not in addition to my period. The guy who answered the phone didn't seem to understand me and said that spotting is perfectly normal. I stressed to him that i knew spotting was normal, but i didn't think that it was possible that it would completely take the place of my period. He put me on hold and said he'd ask, then got back on the phone and said it was fine. I am still wary, and am planning on calling back, but I just figured I'd ask if anyone here has had the same problem, or knows if this is normal with Depo Provera use. Any help would be much appreciated. :)

I have a friend on depo who never gets her period. (She loves it ;) My doctor also mentioned to me at my second-to-last visit that if depo works well for women, they don't get a period at all.

Not sure if that's exactly your answer, but I hope it helps ;)

...how do you know the spotting wasn't just a light period?

...and in response to the original questioner: 1. what makes you think you're not ovulating? 2. If your only problem with periods right now is pain control, see if the doctor can just put you on pain medicine (i'm on bentyl, an antispasmodic that is more usually prescribed for intestinal stuff but which works well, as well as mega-doses of ibuprofen taken with lotsa water)... 3. Or, alternately, if the doctor doesn't listen to you.. switch doctors? If you can?

hi -- this post was a few days ago, don't know if you need another answer. if you feel you haven't been ovulating, and your cramps are worse, and you used to be on hormones, insist on a thorough check up, maybe even an ultrasound-if you've got insurance. the percentage of women in our age group getting fibroids & endometriosis has skyrocketed -- and if you find out early, your chances of getting good treatment are better. not ovulating & a history of treatment with hormones are prime factors for both.
another thought is acupuncture...the only thing that gets me through my bad ones. good luck!
