Sep. 6th, 2005 03:49 amUnder the cut is an IM conversation I just had. A male friend of mine needed some advice regarding a situation with his girlfriend, but I figured I'd post everything here too, for everyone's peace of mind. All screen names edited out for privacy.
him: hey
me: hiya
him: got a few?
him: i know its late/early but i need to talk to a momma
me: i think so, go ahead hon
him: okay
him: so two weeks ago, the condom busted
him: incidentally, i hate trojan
him: anyhow
him: what are the signs and how soon would they show
me: nausea (not necessarily in the morning, mine was in the evenings at first), stomach pains, missed period of course, change in complexion (usually less acne, if it was present at all), a kind of glow sometimes, hair appears to be getting healthier and more full-bodied, fingernails grow faster (all that's due to hormone changes and whatnot). two weeks is about par, that's when my neasea and stomach pains started
him: we used plan B
him: but it was a saturday night
him: so like 30 hours passed before we had access
me: one sec...
me: was it only one dose. or was there more for her to take?
him: she took two pills, 12 hours apart
me: ok. from what i can Google up, with 72 hours is still alright. most effective within 24, but there's not a significant drop until after 72. there's only about a 12% chance she'll get pregnant now
him: but
him: you're missing the deciding factor
him: she was in ovulation stage
me: i didn't miss it, you neglected to mention it brb again, gonna research a little more...
me: "HOW DOES PLAN B WORK?
Plan B works through delaying or preventing ovulation, by interfering with fertilization (inhibiting the movement of the egg or the sperm through the fallopian tube), and may inhibit implantation by altering the lining of the uterus." ...i can look more, and i understand the paranoia, but i'm thinking that you're probably safe. but, still keep an eye on things.
him: she's "flowing" more. and thicker.
him: it almost looks like mucus
me: that's probably a combination of simply getting her period and the sudden hormone change from the pills
him: really
me: yes
me: i'm a member of a great community on LJ that's all about menstruation, i can post your concers there (without names, of course) and then give you a link to the entry, if it'll help ease both of your minds to see what other women knowledgeable women have to say about it
him: go for it
him: :-)
me: okies
Basically, I'm looking to make sure the information I gave him is accurate so the two of them can feel some relief :) Thanks ladies!

Date: 2005-09-06 09:07 am (UTC)i'd also say that if she took emergency contraception within the time limits and in the right way (ie no vomiting etc) that she'll be ok.
(ps, you didnt need to post the whole conversation - a quick summary would have been easier, imo)

Date: 2005-09-06 09:17 am (UTC)As far as posting the conversation, I proabaly would have ended up re-typing most of it anyway, since I wanted to check my information as well as get assesments on their situation, so cut-and-paste seemed a little more practical.
Thanks for the comment.

Date: 2005-09-06 09:43 am (UTC)thats assuming that all womens cycles are the same. some ovulate much later and have periods quickly after.
Anyway.. (im not trying to be snoooty, im just trying to figure this out). Just the way he describes it makes me think creamy cervical fluid. it can gush and things. TMI. lol.
i think that they should be fine. maybe he has low sperm count or she only is fertile 2 days out of the month or something. You never know.
