This sounds gross but I don't care. I got my period a few days ago. Over the past few days, my clitorus has been hurting, really sore, like sorta stinging. Today my period stopped enough for me to examine it properly. There was all this dried blood on it that has been there for, I assume, 2 days. I gently removed all the dried blood I could see, but it still really hurts. I had a bath to wash it properly, but am scared there's still some down there, some that I can't see to remove. If there is what can I do about it, short of visitng a doctor. Also, if there isn't, is my clit infected, or will the pain go away by itself? Can menstruation ever cause infections, in cases like this?

i have never heard of menstrual blood infecting a clitoris, but i'm no doc. Just make sure you're gently cleaning with non-irritating soap and water (exterior of vulva only, don't want soap inside, that's just not good for you), and you should be alright. Perhaps what happened was that the blood dried and was kind of rough and scratched up your clitoris, and that's what caused the stinging. If my clit receives too much... er... chafing action, it stings, but goes away after a couple of days.

It sounds like you are using pads: perhaps try a menstrual cup to avoid blood contact with your clitoris?

I've gotten raw and sore there before. I'm fairly sure it's a minor rash coming from being "not-quite-clean". I take a mild soap, and scrub gently with the pads of my fingers until the suds rinse clean. Then, I make sure it dries well, which usually involves lying in front of a fan. It'll take a couple days for the pain to fade, if this is the problem.

Yeah it's definitely a pad thing if that's what you're using (which I'm assuming you are otherwise, how is it getting up there??)... I found that if I use anything made by Kotex my outer girly parts literally CRACK and turn red and rashy. It itches until I touch and then burns like hell. I started using Natracare pads (made of cotton, not polyester blend crap, and they're not bleached or covered in weird scents and chemicals - they feel like velvet) and I have had no problem since then.

theres really no way that you could'nt see every part of your vulva/clit. Just get a mirror, an pull back your clitoral hood with your fingers.
You sound really scared, and assuredly, you shouldn't be. Blood will dissolve in water, so even if you somehow couldn't see it all, it would wash away. And dried blood cannot cause an infection. A lot of things can cause clitoral swelling, but none of them are really anything to worry about, as long as it goes away in a few days/week. I agree with the others, it does sound like a pad issue.

I get some labia/clit irritation occasionally. If its bad, you can use monistat cream externally.

Does anyone know if it is safe to use any(and which brands) of over the counter itch cream on the vulva?
